| Hi all,
I think I may have corrupted my Sata 1 Hard Drive on my Sam440, I found I was getting an error message while copying files from one folder to another on the same partition.
I wasn't quite sure what my options were?
1. Add an external HD (and copy all my Work and Workbench files to that then reformat my HD) 2. Install another internal Sata 1 HD on one of the other J2x jumpers (and copy all my Work and Workbench files to that then reformat my HD) 3. Install a SDD drive (and copy all my Work and Workbench files to that then reformat my HD)
What would you all suggest and are there any videos or tutorials on how to do any of the above _________________

You surely have an error only on this partition. You could copy the datas, from the damaged partition, to another one on the HD.
During the copy, you will seen the corrupted datas (error messages). When the copy will be finished, you quick format the damaged partition and after you copy the saved datas over and reinstall from scratch the missing datas.
maybe you could use partition wizard program (in case the partition use sfs).

My hard drive has completely given up the ghost and I will need to replace.
Lost all my Workbench and Work partitions (my fault, should have backed-up)
Any ideas on a good HD replacement, make and model? _________________

One of the best investments i ever did in my IT life, was buying a NAS (i actually have two). The disks inside are RAID configured so they're all updated automatically and, in case one dies, you can hot-swap disks without loosing a bit. They contain all my datas (music, photos ecc.) so if something happens to the internal disks, i only loose the operating systems. Also, being in LAN, they're accessible from everything i have (PC, Amiga, PlayStation3 and even the phone)

You have the same problem as me, the Amiga OS 4 driver for Sam (now I don't remember the name) corrupt the hard disk where is the OS4 installed, I had a hard disk of 160GB sata of 3,5" but now I have a hard disk of 180 sata but of 2,5" and the 3,5" I have it inside of hard disk external cases, and the hard disk now is work perfectly as backup, the problem is that the Samep and the driver handle the hard disk and DVD drive very bad, and I don't know why? but the only solution is to have three hard disk, one with the backup and the others to replacent between them. |

Thankfully I've been able to reformat my HD and instal OS4.1.1.
I now have to go through the task of installing all the quick fixes and updates, but would still like a seconf HD any suggestions on make and model? _________________

the second hard disk connect it in the Sam as main hard disk instead of current and format it with the OS4 CD to install on it the file boot (sorry I do this many times but I don't remember it) the model the hard disk here there is problem only there is a manufacturer to 2,5" hard disk, Hitachi, besides this hard disk consume less energy than 3,5" model, and there are more options to capacity because they are the current hard disk for notebooks, also are a few more expensives than the 3,5" but with the new format Sata 2 or Sata 3 when the Sam uses Sata, to avoid strange things, I use a 2,5" at moment I haven't problems (I touch wood) since almost one year. |

| Well I'm getting an error message again even though I reformatted.
I have a couple of old laptops and was wondering if the hard drives from these could be used im my Sam.
I checked one of my old laptops and it is a 2.5in IDE hard drive, can this be used in my Sam? Last edited by 1Mouse on 13-Mar-2012 at 03:50 PM. Last edited by 1Mouse on 13-Mar-2012 at 03:50 PM.

| I've taken my Sam apart but there only seems to be 2 cable for power to SATA drive and if I wish to have 2 hard drive and a CD (all SATA) then I need 3 cables for power.
Is there something I'm missing?

you may want a power splitter from a 4pin old-style connector to two SATA power connectors.
You can possibly get one of these from a local PC parts store and refit your sam to run 4 SATA devices that way?

With the help of MickJT I am now the lucky owner of a working Sam440ep with working SATA CD-Rom and SATA 500gb Hard Drive.
I have a second hard drive I'd like to add and have connected it to another of the internal SATA ports but workbench doesn't seem to recognise it.
I have tried connecting it to both remaining internal SATA ports but nothing.
Is there anything in Prefs or System that I can use to detect the HD?
Do I need to set something in UBoot? _________________

I have not tried this yet myself but you need to adjust these to match the port that you have the second hard drive connected to.
sii3114ide_conf=1002 (1=HD 2=CD 0= Empty) sii3114ide_xfer=G00F s4sii_maxbus=1 (Maybe 2 here as both ports are being used with 3 drives)

I have something like: sii3114ide_conf=1002 (1=HD 2=CD 0= Empty) sii3114ide_xfer=G00F
in my setenv in uboot but I think that only accounts for 2 drive CD & HD
I think I need something like: sii3114ide_conf=1102 (1=HD 2=CD 0= Empty) sii3114ide_xfer=GGGG
so that it can access 2 HD and 1 CD
Can someone confirm whether this is correct? _________________

sii3114ide_conf=1102 sii3114ide_xfer=GG0F
then
s4sii_maxbus=2 _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |

So:
setenv sii3114ide_conf=1102 sii3114ide_xfer=GG0F s4sii_maxbus=2 saveenv
should do it? _________________

Your configuration seems to be good. You could also remove the sii3114ied_conf line as Uboot will detect automatically if you have a cd or hd.
Enjoy again OS4 and backup this time !

Oh crap,
I tried:
setenvsii3114ide_conf 1102 setencsii3114ide_xfer gggg saveenve
And it now says I have no SLB and I'm having to boot from my OS4.1.1 CD again.
All I want is my Sam to recognise I have 1 500GB HD (OS installed) and 1 160GB HD and not to lose all my software already installed on my 500GB HD.
Can I change the sii3114ide setting so that my Sam recognises the second HD and to also add the SLB again? _________________
