Mouse Scroll Wheel Speed [No OS4 Pref]

All:

Can the default fast/slow mouse scroll wheel speed be adjusted by the user?

NListviews in MUI has that option (External:Nlistviews -> Misc/Misc4) but I couldn't find a similar control for regular windows.

Update:
=======

So, from the responses, It looks like there isn't an OS4 system-wide preference for adjusting mouse-wheel scrolling speed. (I wasn't complaining about the speed, just wondering if I had overlooked something.)

Zerohero reported via Number6 that MUI Internal:scrollbars has a checkbox for "allow middle button mouse scrolling" (see below).

Thanks for all the replies,
      JCC

same pb here : a big picture with multiview is scrolled to slow with the wheelmouse.

I did not find any settings related to the wheelmouse (in input and amigainput).

@thread

And for those who want to scroll with the "arrow" keys, faster movement is
achieved exactly the same way...by holding down "shift" while pressing one
of the arrow keys. "Alt" plus arrow keys will take you to the end of the scroll
range. (at least on my keyboard this works this way)

Actually, the Shift thing doesn't really change anything. I however noticed
with for instance - IBrowse, that if you point outside the slider, still having
IBrowse active, then scrolling with the mousewheel happens very fast, but
pointing the pointer into the slider itself, will make mousewheel movements
slow...

That's the conclusion i came to...

EDIT: Did more testing. It seems that different programs have different
types of MouseWheel-support, so behave could be different from a program
to another...

@Helgis

I am confused by your response. I did not mention the scrollwheel on the mouse
at all. Therefore I don't see how the following statement you made has anything
to do with what I said:

Quote:

IBrowse active, then scrolling with the mousewheel happens very fast, but

My statement was confined to use of scrolling with "qualifier" keys like "shift"
and "alt" in conjunction with the keyboard "arrow keys".

@Helgis

But you are also -right- that different programs DO behave differently both with
using the "scrollwheel" and the "arrow keys".
Some programs are being changed as we speak.
Indeed some consistency here would be nice.

It's because Helgis doesn't read everything you write
He chooses the part he finds interresting and comments on that. This is
probably why his answers baffles other members of the site sometimes.

Mouse scroll speed should be definable in mouse settings. Options could be:
* 2 rows
* 4 rows
* 6 rows
* 8 rows
* 25% page
* 50% page
* 75% page
*100% page

This should cover what most people would need

@Samwel

Just for you, so I don't confuse anyone:
If nlist is used in MUI program, scrolling with middle button (scroll wheel)
will take place -regardless- of the setting in Preferences/MUI/scrollbars.
Note the "checkbox" for "allow middle button mouse scrolling".
Scrolling will not be "turned off" for "scroll wheel" by "unchecking" this option
and clicking "use", IF the MUI program uses nlist.
Credit @zerohero for this info.

@number6

Yes I know

This is how MUI works. If your program doesn't use the default MUI mcc's
then you'll have to see to it that the external ones you use support it.
This is ONE of the reason I don't like MUI. Mouse scrolling SHOULD be
system wide, not a feature for every mcc out there..

Has anyone noticed thast the scroll mouse moves the window left? I have noticed this in Ibrowse. If the page is too wide for the window and you scroll down quickly for more than two windows of page then the slider moves left.

Confirmed. I have seen this initially in Voyager 3.2.

Yes - the ability to change the scroll wheel speed would be great.

Personally, I'd also like to be able to DISABLE the scroll wheel. (Yes, I know that sounds a bit odd. ) The reason is that using a scroll wheel a lot is likely to bring on RSI (repetitive strain injury) so I'm trying to train myself not to use them any more.

@all

My next version of Macc will have scroll-wheel speed settings for both wheels. By setting the multiplier (in Macc) to 0 the wheel gets disabled and by setting it to a negative value it gets inverted.

Using the next version of AllKeys the wheel events can also be copied (not just translated) into NewMouse events. Changing the speed of NewMouse wheels can only be achived by sending multiple event though, because it only has up/down/left/right codes, no speed implied IIRC.

Hold on for the next release by OnyxSoft!

With current version of AllKeys the wheel can be accelerated by adding this to the AllKeys.prefs file:
CODE=$8000ffff CLASS=WHEEL TRANSLATE=$8000feff,WHEEL
CODE=$800001ff CLASS=WHEEL TRANSLATE=$800002ff,WHEEL

(Change 'fe' and '02' to 'fd' and '03' to multiply the speed by 3 instead of 2.)

To use CapsLock to disable the wheel you can add these lines:
CODE=$800401ff CLASS=WHEEL EAT
CODE=$80040fff CLASS=WHEEL EAT

@Deniil715

I'm thinking we need a new sticky thread somewhere, or maybe an article in the OS4 section, that covers all these little tidbits of things that you can do with AllKeys.

All because I just know that I'm going to forget about this before I get home from work.

Though, talking about this made me think of something else that could be done right now that would effectively make the mouse wheel work in all programs, even without MACC's newmouse support!

What about translating the mouse wheel events into up/down arrow key events? Or maybe into page up/down events?

I think I'm going to experiment with this some tonight.
