| @gerograph Hm, I do not think it has something to do with Sam or in general with Hardware. As long as I use Soundcards on any of my Amiga together with AHI, there was a clipping here and there while starting or switching a soundfile. I think AHI is the problem, perhabs the way it opens the driver or something like that. But only while playing something, recording is just fine :O)

Don't have this problem myself. Where does your sound come from? Speakers connected to Sam rear audio for instance. _________________ If your nose runs and your feet smell, you're upside down. |

Note there isn't such a thing as 'the' AC'97 driver really. An AC'97 always needs a controller chip, for example, a VIA686B, FM801 or emu10kx. Or in the case of the SAM, a CS4281.
Different people can have different problems. Yaroze' problem was apparently due to some input of the AC'97 not being connected and not 'terminated' properly which gets solved by starting the mixer, which in turn sets the (monitoring) volume of these unused inputs. Aside that, you can easily have clipping with AHI mixing routines indeed.

Thanks for the explanation Dave.
I've gone back to the VIA-AC97 driver on my AmigaOne, and it performs better under OS4.1 than it did on 4.0.
Consequently after updating to OS4.1, my M-Audio 5.1 card makes crackling noises. Does anyone know why this would happen? I've tried two different M-audio cards, different slots, different AHI config., all with the same results, so I know the card is fine.
Perhaps I should try a card with a different Envy chipset than the M-Audio 5.1?

If you are having issues with the same Envy24HT driver that you were using under OS4.0, something got messed up in 4.1. When exactly do you get crackling noises, when you play something and don't touch/download anything or when playing and simultaneously doing something else?

Aha! There is something wrong with my AmigaOne :( The crackling noise got worse when I copied files from the CD to hard drive. Then the noise completely went away, and at the same time my network transfer speed improved.
I'm wondering if my motherboard fix (DMA?) is failing. Anyway I've moved my disk and CD drives to a PCI card. I'll use this configuration and see if the problem returns.
Thanks for the input. - Lars _________________ http://www.hostcove.com http://www.youtube.com/hostcove Sam460 : X1000 : X5000 |
