It seems MUI OWB is best browser for downloading (and good old IBrowse close second), Netsurf result is surprisingly bad. |

I dont know looks like the browser who are using mui are more faster then the other . More speed in download means more faster in download the mime too and faster browsing. Probably there is some mui library for the network and this library gave better results compared to reaction? _________________

I don´t think so. These things are probably unrelated.

i dont like muiowb because all time i open it it start caching the fonts... and it become slower in opening like timberwolf... if i dint have this problem mui ovb will be i think the best browser for my configuration. Last edited by tlosm on 04-May-2013 at 10:36 AM.

Maybe you could do a likewise test with ftp-progs and see if the mui ones are faster then the other ones. Last edited by Dirk-B on 04-May-2013 at 10:41 AM.

Are you sure that quoting the max peak speed seen is the best way to measure which is fastest? I mean, wouldn't a better way be to time how long the entire download takes and take an average to calculate the speed. Two times isn't enough either - also depends on your network connection, and Aminet's. I'm not so sure there is that big a difference in reality when it comes to downloading. I know that with IBrowse, the limiting factor would be the network connection and HDD speed, because all it does is simply read from the network connection and write that buffer straight to disk - there is nothing to slow it down, other than other apps and possibly due to the 68k emulation. _________________ IBrowse, AmiSSL and Warp Datatype Developer |

That's a commonly occuring, but solvable, problem with MUI-OWB on OS4.
Solutions have been found:

nice test, i didn't know that browser did actually slow down the download rate. but now that i'm aware of the issue, i do see the different between OWB and MuiOWB , and the difference between Chrome and Firefox, i always thought this was network related by the different network standard that been used today. thanks for this information _________________ nox's in the house! |

| Just use amiga.sf.net wget for large file downloads, unless the server denies it.

With me amftp says 257kbs average for that file.
Have done a second test and this is what i get:
amftp: 506 and 530 average speed amiftp: 357 and 356 average speed
Hmm, could it be related to the proxy of our providers? Last edited by Dirk-B on 04-May-2013 at 03:22 PM.
