Hello all !

I would like to buy an Amiga X1000 and I wish it to be at the top.
I plan to buy a small but fast SSD as booting device hosting the OS, and a second, bigger "normal" HD for the other applications.

Is there any inconvenient (like disk repair/validation) to use a SSD on Amiga ?

Which graphic board would you suggest me ?

Anything else I should care of before buying ?

Thanks.

Is there a X1000 to buy? I thought you can only set yourself on the waiting list

Yes, but I would like to choose the harware/options before contacting AmigaKit.

Its not an easy procedure, you might need to wait for a while. Fist step is to assure you have enough money on credit card and to contact them at http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/x1000/?webpage=buy

Mind that basic price of 2200GBP does not include shipping, OS 4.1 and comes with 1GB RAM, and RadeonHD 4000 series graphic card and I believe 500GB hard drive. So for OS 4.1 and shipping you should have some more money plus for any additional upgrade to basic configuration.

This is nice plan to increase AmigaOS performance, but since only suitable SSD models do work, it would be best to arrange it with AmigaKit, so they could install you the OS (I believe it does not come with OS4 CD unless you pay extra)

If you can pay for the upgrade from HD 4000 series card, Radeon 6570. Its best to pay it as upgrade option (configurator should be provided by AmiKIt as final step of purchase)
as you will pay just price difference.

I believe standard disk tools do work, its far more important to pick the right SSD.
If AmiKit doesn`t have one, you can buy it from Acube. But I believe they can do so.

I believe that works other way around. However, when you express interest, you might sooner or later get the option to configure it.

However, this is to best of my knowledge, please wait for people who have passed the procedure to let you know.

Yes obviously new batch is on sale. Its on front page of AmigaKit, but configuration page is hidden from public. They ship to the list, true so its not an easy buying procedure and those who have been ordered in past are first served. So only way to know what is going on is to express interest now.

Last I checked the Wizard was still broken on Update 6. So best to use SFS where possible. As there are recovery tools available for it.

@AmigaPhil
Your best bet is to contact AmigaKit (by phone or email) directly. AmigaKit knows what hardware is compatible or not and is really the only ones you need to talk to.

I wouldn't bother with web forums. There is a lot of misinformation around.

@AmigaPhil

I've e-mailed AmigaKit about 10 days ago. So far, no reply, nor even an acknowledgement receipt.

No news, good news ? Should I just wait to be at the top of the wish-to-buy list ?
How long does it take between show of interest and shipment recently ?

@AmigaPhil

Who knows, they need to fill a production batch, the question is if the orders need for production.

A-EON / Trever is not making a lot of money on this motherboards, production of motherboards might stop at any time, as long as the offer exists there is hope.

Yes! As long as your email did not bounce back to you.

Yes! They will contact you when it is time to build your X1000. You will still have the option of backing out after they contact you. If you are still interested you will be able to fit your X1000 from the available options. If you want something they don't offer, just ask them about it. If it can be done I am sure they will do it.

All I can tell you is that my show of interest in early 2012 and the build start of my X1000 was a couple of months. I received my X1000 in August 2012 if memory serves me correct. The wait all depends on how many people are in line in front of you. This is why the earlier you tell them you want an X1000 the sooner you will get one. You don't want to be the one holding an empty glass when the beer runs out.

Now that I'm ready to get it, I cross my fingers for the X1000 not being discontinued.

It does worry me that you have NOT got a e-mail saying "Your interest has now been noted."
