Hello,

I was wondering how many A1SE users are still out there running OS4.0/1? I start to believe we are a dying breed.

Still two owners of the G3 Amiga in Sacramento. One active (me)
I actually used my G3 at the programers SIG in AmiWest2012. It kept up pretty well and I was able to use CodeBench too!

@SACC-dude

Cool. I do a lot of coding on it using Codebench. It's amazing how long it is already running.

@Dirk-B

Up for 4.2 on it? I sure am. Might be a bit of a struggle but that's the fun of it.

@Coder

Maybe you could write a patch for it, that would be easier to install.

Like for example to comment out all usb and to install the classic gui.
Also to do maybe a light install and to add later the extra's.

It sux that SE version should never have been commercially sold. They knew this then. I had a couple buddies with this setup in the nyc user groups and it actually killed their want for NG amigas and have long since gone back to 3.x and classic :(

There's another SE user in Italy, he has recently bought one second-hand.

I wonder how many of the AmigaONEs are SE. When I heard that there would be an XE G4 I changed my order.

Just to make sure you (and others) realize: Not all G3 AmigaOnes are of the SE variety. There are many XE G3s, I have one myself here, and they are much less problem-ridden than the SEs, generally on par with the G4 XEs.

Best regards,

Niels

When I was thinking of buying an SE myself it was made very clear by Eyetech that these were limited developer machines not for end users. As a result of the warnings, I waited for the XE board and I'm glad I did. Perhaps your buddies didn't get the same memo?

@ssolie

But way should developers be interested in buggy computer, anyway waited for the XE, I guess some dealers did not care about the disclaimer, or normal users got there hands on it from second hand marked from developers.

My buddies didnt get any memo. All they got was marketing hype. As a matter of fact NO TERON BOARD SHOULD HAVE BEEN COMMERCIALLY SOLD. How do I know this? I spent 2 weeks at Motorola Labs in Austin Texas talking to engineers and execs. They actually had a bunch of Terons running YDL and in the words of one of the main lab guys (its useless)

Having said this the XE range has been good for some guys all these years, (of course with all the articia problems) but you see how many cpus have failed.

@realize

That was the mean reason i bout the user-version of the SE.

The cpu was soldered and it was running much cooler.

And i also did not like that the cpu-board from the XE covered
the northbridge.

Good idea. For sure I will purchase 4.2 to see how it works. I guess there is no official support anymore for A1SE.

There was only one version, the developer board, right?

Nice. I have to say I am amazed it still works after so many years.
