| I have two problems/doubts with my Sam460ex with AmigaOS4.1 Update4.
The Sam doesn't run the Disk image device version 52.77, it cant's open iso files from Cd images, I think that this problem is because the Sam460 hasn't DVD/CD drive but this same version in my favorite but currently death Sam440ep rans perfectly some idea and suggestion of why this problem?
Second I want make a USB SD drive image with the OS4.1 update with Update4 will to have update and as rescue unit but I don't get a copy from the original SD card with the OS4.1 for this Sam, I copy the files in a SD formated as FFS but the OS4 appears as other hard drive, there is a program to make a perfect copy from this SD card to after update and yes, rebuilding with the kernels from OS4 for Sam440ep and to try to resucite my favorite Sam.
Thanks for the ideas and suggestions. |

I haven't tried the diskimage device recently. I'll have to try it. I think the last complete official bootable version of OS4 is update 2. I got a CD (DVD?) with update 2 and also a SD with update 2. I thought the SD was a straight copy of the CD. Are you trying to make a boot disk with update 4? Maybe starting with update 2 and running updates 3 and 4 on it would get you there. Interesting experiment. I don't know if it's been done before. _________________ X5000 / microA1(OS4.1 FE U2) / CodeBench / Imagine / Blender Lightwave 2019 / Microsoft Visual C++ |

The new disk image devices have to be set up right or you have this problem. Start DiskimageGUI . Select ICD0. Select the second to last but on the right of the toolbar (the one with the circle and crossbar thingie) Select Device type CD-ROM. Save
Your CD images should mount .
Not quite understanding the other problem wit the SD card. Do you need to make an exact copy for the Same model SAM 460ex or for the Sam440 EP ?. If you need a second copy of a working card then you can use The Radwdisk program in Utilities to write a rawimage file of the SD card to hard drive and the write the image back to a new SD card. You can also use a Windows program called Roadkils Disk Image. I find this quicker and it also allows me to save the disk image off the Amiga in case of problems with the Amiga hard drive.
If you need to make a new Boot SD card from scratch up to update 4 the the best way is to make at second boot partition on you hard drive. Then install a fresh Amiga OS4.1 on it and update all the way up to update 4. Then make a bootable SDcard with media tool box. remember to give it a higher boot priority than you harddrive partitions. You have to install SLB on the SD card as well. Then your format the SDCard. Then you copy the files from your second boot partition to the SDcard . SFS/01 is probably the best for this as it has the advantage of being read and written to by AROS in case any changes need to made when you cant boot OS4.1

Thank you for your help, I want make an exact copy of the SD card with AmigaOS4.1 update 2 and update with the update4 and the last libraries, and also make other copy for rebuilding with the kernel for the Sam440ep and try to recover. I can't make the hard disk partition because I have other two partitions for case of system crash and not reinstall the program and games again. Last edited by Templario on 01-May-2012 at 05:32 PM.

Ok. If you have a windows machine use Roadkil's Disk Image program to make an image file of the SD card and save it as a file on the PC harddrive. Then use the same program to write the image file to your new SD card . it must be the same size as the original SD card or larger. It could also be written to to USB pendrive. Then boot you Sam with this new card and apply the OS updates one at at time, rebooting after each update. Once every thing works ok up to the last update (Update 4) you can also make an image of this SD card and save it on the PC hard drive . Be careful to select the right device to write the image file back to so you don't write over your PC hard drive when copying back an image to the USB drive . the drive letter and sizes of each drive show up in the section window for the drive
The windows programs is available at the following link :

When you run DiskimageGui do you see the a CD Icon to the left of the unit number for ICD0 and ICD1 and Floppy icon for IDF0 and IDF1 ? _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |

Yes I do. I just tested an adf file and that mounts no problem but cd/dvds do not mount on the workbench. The small icons are present in the gui, unit and type are set. I am using a sii3114 with HD and DVD.

Hello.
You can try also RawDisk to make an image from an Partition. Its in the Utilities dir from Workbench.

I did mention Rawdisk. But it is slower and does not always do the image copy 100% .

Good/Bad news.
The good my problem with DiskImage is resolved is as you told me, thanks.
The bad, Itried to make a copy with the PC Windos program DiskImage 1.6 in two SD cards and in both cases the program tells me that there is a error. Also I tried with the RawDisk but it doesn't allow me coy from SD to harddisk to make the image, only from other harddisk, but I want a exact copy from AmigaOS4 SD. Other suggestion, thanks friend for your help. |

Hi.
In linux land there is the dd command. Its only console based no gui. You can find an amiga version in the fat95.lha archive in aminet. I never tried it. So you take good care when you may try it out.
@Spectre660 Sorry must have overread it.

the only other way is the long setup and format the new SD card in Amiga OS installing SLB and using FFS/00 as the partition type formatting then copying the contents of the first SD card maybe to a hard drive drawer then copying back to the new SDCard.
What is the exact error message that are you getting with the Disk Image Program ?
You should attach the SDcard in the Reader via USB on the PC before you start the Disk Image programs.I use an external multi-format reader and no problems. I do remember that DJNick had a problems writing an Image so it possible that not all readers work with this method.

I did not think it was possible to use Rawdisk so I tried, and it works!
In Rawdisk, select your SD card device (like SD0). Select a destination file. In the "number of cylinder" field put the number of cylinder that you see at the bottom of the Rawdisk window. Press "Start".
Of course it will create a file of the SD size.
Then you can write it back reversing the write direction.
Here the result seems the same as before. Try on your side. _________________ Philippe 'Elwood' Ferrucci Sam460 1.10 Ghz AmigaOS 4 betatester Amiga Translator Organisation |
