@TheDaddy

When I got my A1200 my (ex) wife told me "enough was enough"... so I had to buy the CPU card and hard drive quietly and install them when she was out.

I got rumbled several month later because a mate came around to play some games and told me that his wife wouldn't let him buy a hard drive for his A1200. I explained what I did while blissfully unaware of my wife standing in the doorway behind me.

Ooops!

Classic. I need to come up with some numbers which when maths is applied to them it makes it look as if I've at least broken even...

So I've got it all planned, get this... seven years of work/time and money + several prototypes + selling stuff on ebay, including my car...twice, some furniture I found in the garage and around the house (I just said: "surely we don't need this..."), all my Amigas and C64s collection + some of the Minimig money + some cash out of my salary (several times, who needs to pay gas and electricity...) = X500 Plus and X500 Evo which equals to profit which in turns makes it ok...

that, my friend, I call MAN MATHS...

@TheDaddy

I can't understand this obsession with a case type that was hated by real Amigans like Jay Miner. This keyboard cases where one of the reasons why the Amiga was blamed to be a toy.

OK I won't repeat all the points that kicked this cases into oblivion but I just can't understand your obsetion with it.

Jay Miner was wrong.

Nonsense.

I think that more or less answers your points...

@Arko

Although people here seem to find tons of things to fight about, which baffles me in the first place, I would think personal preference is a simple enough explanation as to why some like (or in @The Daddy's case, obsessed with, as you say) with this case.

You don't like it and that is fine.

My preference is for the keyboard to be separate from the computer case. But that is just my preference.

Others prefer the A500/A1200 style. Even though this case isn't for me, I do have to admit it is rather cool looking. And if someone wanted a case in this style, I don't think anyone could do it any better.

I also really hope he reaches his kickstarter, as besides the simple fact that I like to see people who are really dedicated to something succeeding, it's a good marker for future Amiga projects that may consider using kickstarter. If a pricey keyboard can succeed, more mainstream Amiga projects may have an even better chance.

@Arko

To blame the wedge case on making the Amiga seem like a toy is ignoring the fact that in the 80s nearly all home computers looked like that. The manufacturers changed them into larger blocks with separate keyboards once hard drives and (large) expansion cards become the norm. This progressed into the tower once we needed even more space for things like CD ROM drives, tape drives, etc.

Now that once what took up a multiple huge PCI/ISA card comes on a single chip on the motherboard or fits into a USB slot, we've swung back again and smaller is better.

Some of us never lost our love for small all-in-one cases that could provide limited expansion. Do you honestly expect Minimig or FPGA Arcade users to install their mobos into a tower case? I bought the smallest case I could find in a shop to house my Efika and I could have put 50 of the boards in there and still had space for some extra stuff.

As for "The Daddy" being obsessed with it, you might as well claim Apple is obessed with iPads, Ford is obsessed with cars or Banksey is obsessed with painting. The Daddy makes, designs and sells cases. It is what he does. It isn't an obsession, it is fun and it achieves a goal.

It is also something he can later be proud of because so few people actualy have the ability and talent to design and manufacture something that others are willing to buy. Lots of people talk about doing it, but few follow through.

Well said.

Obviously this case isn't for everyone. Even the C128 came in a wedge or A1000 style case, and people still argue over whether the C64 breadbox is better than the C64C.

91% done. £814 to go...but please don't stop pledging once the £10,000 has been reached (if we reach it)...it'd make me feel good if I actually had some spare cash to boast about...LOL!

I made a sticker for the white version of the X500 Plus / Evo.

What do you think about it?

Well done TheDaddy nice to see that dreams, hard work and belief in ones self can pay off in the end...

If only the NatAmi team had at least given Kickstarter a try then just think what could have been, a NatAmi in a nice X500 case that would have been just perfect as the "New" Amiga... if only...

You reached it! Your free time will be rare for a while I guess.
It's nice to see things happen.

Thank you very much everyone...we made it!

Please don't stop spreading the word and thinking about pledging, we have a week to go yet and we need a decent buffer zone.

Thank you again to everyone who worked so hard in posting the news and publicising the project.

@TheDaddy

I have pledged 1 GBP.

I think that is all I can do for now. But I will be ready whenever there are other KickStarters Projects.
