Er... next phase of the long-awaited OS?
Well this tells us next to nothing.
Apparently the announcement was about AA2 after all.

I love the About Amiga Inc. section. I couldn't have written better fiction even if I tried! _________________

| @ne_one,
*Sigh* I have to agree. This is really not a terribly impressive announcement. Maybe it needs to be written up better or something....(?)
I was really hoping for an announcement saying everything with Amiga OS4 has been patched up and sales of a new Amiga running OS4 will start next week.
(Yeah, I didnt really expect that either, but I was hopeful...)
So what, exactly, will AA2 do for us? There was a lot of buzzwords thrown about in that writeup, but can you (Amiga) show us something concrete?

Also, is it me or did they really mean it when they said "during" CES? During, not at... _________________

"The Amiga world has waited long enough," said Bill McEwen,
i think i speak for evry body here. no one in the communaty has waited for it, it is something that has come. with out any needs for it, the real need is to get the pa.semi on the streets, and get linces issues with acube done, i think ack shuld conzentrate on pa.semi and drop the low end and open for acube
soo anyway amiga os 5 was a spuff to get evry body to wake op too there new aa2
how many times does the communaty has to say ít to bill and co. iff aa2 does not run on os 4.0 wee dont wont it and therbye wee dont wannna pay for it,
iff there wanna sell some produckts make them too os 4.0
funny now there are suing hyperion. and there are saying that there will suport os 4.0 but there cant becuse off hyperion. the last 7 years there have ignoret the communaty completli on the os 4.0 front.now when its done.. and money can be made there are comming running back to the desktop platform.

| Firstly, this seems like just a opening speech... you did know that the show goes for 10 days didn't you? So maybe wait with comments till after. Also, he said that AA2 is the "first phase of the Amiga OS".
Personally, I feel that if Amiga is going to have a future, it will need more than just an updated OS, its going to also need something special. I think AA2 could possibly be that something. I developed with the original AA, the idea's and poticial was brilliant. And the size of the apps. wow!!
We can all see that there is a great move towards JAVA and Apple are pushing their full OS onto smaller devices. This is where the OS's are all heading. Well, apart from Microsoft.
I think there is great potential for Amiga and the community with AA2.
Also, I still trust Bill. I know what it's like to run a software company, I have similar issues with mine company. |

AA2 is ment to be marketed not only to the Amiga community, but also to the masses. So I think you and other 1000 AmigaOne owners (thats including myself) boycotting AA2 will not make a difference at Amiga's success.
Having said that, it would be good, and Bill has always said that he wants this, to have AA2 work well with OS4. |

From everything I could tell, Digital Experience is a separate event held just before CES and it;s run by different people. From the other thread, the PDF read that it was held at Caesar's Palace, while CES seems to be at the LA Convention Center, so it isn't even in the same building._________________ Tony T.

| @Amiga OK, so there is the news announcement. The Amiga Anywhere 2 is inline with the original goals of AA1.
How much more beefed up is this AA2 now? What IDE / SDK can be used for it? Documents and at least 1 picture is required now.
I will save my final thought until the right moment.

i hope for them that it will be a part off os 4.0 not in five years but in the next update... allso i loved the idea off amigaDE but there was never anuff pepole to make apps for it there was never any products that relly kicked ass. and pepole ignored them
and for my person i hope there are making a speel cheker and a language translation program..and a word bog
all in one, maby something like torrent. it will upload a little and download a little. the more harddisk space you give it the more you use it the better it will be. more and more phones is getting online these days, maby nokia crew could make something with there aa2
allso i think it will be a great idea to make one centralized distrabution off software online, like the os4depot. just with software that you pay for, no one bay anything in a box in a store anymore

There were people making applications for AmigaDE, but when they tried communicating with AmigaInc, they got no answer. Everyone I heard of that was developing stopped because of broken communication or broken promises._________________ http://www.hostcove.com http://www.youtube.com/hostcove Sam460 : X1000 : X5000 |

Yep. No one I know has been waiting for Amiga DE V2. So what is he talking about? We're waiting for some thing that says "OS5" of course.

Better yet - if Tao is officially out of the picture is this a new development or did Amiga acquire the IP?
Bill indicated that AA2 would be the next offering so this really isn't surprising. Suggesting that it was otherwise was probably wishful thinking.

TAO, (Pronounced like DAO) is a great technology stack. I followed its internals and upgrades since it's early day announcements in the Edge Magazine.
I hope Amiga has acquired the IP, or at least learn t from its internals.
Hey perhaps Bill had no time to respond to most people's quires cause he was coding the START BUTTON. He couldn't figure one small bug thats caused all these delays and that is why things always crashed when he pressed it. _________________ Quote:

LAS VEGAS--(Business Wire)--Amiga, Inc. announces the availability of AmigaAnywhere(TM) version 2, the first phase of the Amiga OS. |
Oh F**K off. They have never referred to AmigaAnywhere as Amiga OS before. Apart from the brand name, what is Amiga OS about this technology? I could put up with them calling their DE #### "Amiga" before because its just a brand name. But to label it the "Amiga OS".. I cant stomach that. I bet they cant even name one single thing they borrowed from the original OS. What single part of the Amiga OS API have they used in AA2? What single line of code have they used from exec in AA2? F**k off AI, no one wants anything to do with your crap anymore.
EDIT: Just to add to that, AmigaOS4 is AmigaOS. I dont want AI to muddy the waters here. AmigaAnywhere2 is not AmigaOS.

Has this announcement hit SlashDot yet? Or ars technica for that matter...
Either one will probably roll in the floor laughing at it.
If Amiga Inc handle AA2 rollout and support the same way they handled AA1 rollout and support, this thing will tank. Badly. It will sink without a trace. Yesterday. With any luck, taking the whole company down with it.
