Power.org was terribly silent during the first half of the year. Now there's little life:

Apparently they are going to produce Cisco desgned chips, which makes sense if Intel have spare production capacity, says nothing about Cisco's plans on their own chip designs.

They are not even mentioned in the article, so thats pure speculation.

Quote from the article: Quote:
However the Koreans have stolen a march on the rest of the world as the Intel in the US has declined to comment and Cisco has not said anything yet.

You might get an confirmation at some date, at the moment it dos'nt look like a big deal.

Oh just more of the same of...

One big company buying up other big companies whom bought up other big & small companies before them...

Endless marketing to the brainwashed masses of the "latest" device that is now "even slimmer" and comes in 3 "new colours" that you can't live without or worse you wouldn't be "trendy" if you didn't buy...

Specsaver shares rocketing in value as more & more people need glasses or contact lenses as their eyesight gets poorer and poorer squinting at tiny screens all day long watching the latest adverts for the next gadget they'll need to buy that comes with a slightly bigger screen...

Basically just more of the same old stuff that has plagued the modern world for the past 20 years and turned the past couple of generations into mindless drones to drain them of almost every penny they ever earn so the really big companies can continue to buy ever more big companies... all done of course without any new or genuine innovation in any of the products they sell...

Battery companies are probably the biggest winners in this never ending loop with opticians running a close second (Psychiatrists are eagerly awaiting their turn in the wings, waiting for when the next big solar flare hits and knocks out all communications for a few days and the untold trauma & hysteria it will cause for the vast majority as they are left with a useless lump of plastic in their hands and no one to instantly massage about it)...

Just repeat the above over and over, again and again in an endless cycle for oh... at least the next 30 years and there you'll have a pretty accurate description of your future....

Hmmm... hardly seems much point in things now eh... perhaps mass suicide on a global scale might sound better...

@agami

Cynical... Moi... Never....

I just see the world in a different way from most or more specifically I see the world as an amazing place to explore with never ending interesting thing to see, real and interesting poeple to meet and talk to and simply taking in and enjoying my surroundings...

Rarer than the new way of doing things where the only people you talk to are those at the other end of a mobile device with short text messages that look like their written in code and saying such trival things as "Im bored", "there nothing on the telly" and other mind numbing brain farts as that. All while of course watching movies or mind numbing reality shows as you travel everywhere instead of looking out the window and taking in the sights or actually talking to real people that happen to be sitting right next to you on the same journey...

Cynic... Nah not me... Realist, Sociable and still a member of the free thinking section of the human race... aye...

@AmigaBlitter

Hmm. IBM doesn't want to deal in Servers.
IBM doesn't want to deal in Laptops.
IBM doesn't want to deal in Workstations.

Is IBM actually DOING anything anymore?

Edit:
Maybe their new strategy is buzzword generators.

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

Yet you seem to spend most of your time on here in a virtual land?
Hash Tag Just saying lol

You're right though, many us are becoming slaves to computer and mobile devices and society is becoming less sociable; you've touched on it before with you and your mates in the pub and someone bringing in a tablet and having it doused in beer (actually that probably never happened because a SCOT (nor an Englishman) would never waste beer in any circumstance - maybe it was what would happen if someone brought a tablet to the pub?) You look around and, the moment someone is slightly bored or has nothing to do, out comes the phone - I am guilty of this too!

Also, the number of companies that actually do/sell things (banks, IT companies, FMCG companies) seem to be getting less as they either all run into trouble and merge or hostile takeovers take place and you're left with one great big conglomerate.

I cannot even remember why I started this point (not just to have a pop at you); think I'll get my phone out and start checking Facebook or Twitter

Regards,
Rude!

IBM doesn't want to deal with competition so they concentrate on big iron and services. Margins on x86 servers are nowdays quite thin compared to mainframes.
