Have you tired writing code on a tablet/smartphone? It's not doable. |
Actually, I have done simple python development on my Nokia N900.
But even with built-in physical keyboard, I'd soon wish I had a bluetooth keyboard (but then again, couldn't have fit that comfortably on the bus seat)
And if I was doing it "more seriously", I'd need bigger resolution than 800x480 and a bigger display. Something that can also be connected to modern mobile phones & tablets. So where's the problem?
Yes, I know there ARE some issues. But lack of built-in keyboard most definitely isn't one of them (Seriously... Majority of desktops don't have one either!)
Also, there are models with "keyboard dock" |

| "death of desktop"
When I want to do "serious" stuff like spreadsheet/work stuff I require a keyboard and preferably dual monitors.
Im sure it wont be long before you easily can use dual monitors, keyboard and mouse with tablets thru docking. (might even be possible already??) BUT I like the ability to UPGRADE the desktop capability at my OWN CHOSEN pace instead of being stuck with the meager performance of my IPAD. Atm my tablet is nice for reading/answering mails while traveling, but for anything more than a few lines using the onscreen keyboard makes me wanna throw it away like a frisbee.

Ah, but you CAN throw it like a frisbee. This is much harder to do on a desktop. _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

If this is true, than I expect Win8.x making big gains on the mobile market... If I can get a Win8 tablet or netbook/laptop for 200-300$, than what's the point of Android? Also, this probably makes Windows RT a dead end product, if it wasn't already.
Bay-Trail is the completely new Atom SoC generation with 22 nm process and new CPU core with Intel HD based GPU.

For Android apps, run BlueStacks (Android for Windows).
Btw, AMD Temash SoC is similar to Intel Bay-Trail SoC.

I assume Temash has weaker CPU, more powerful GPU and higher power requirements. |

It's too early to tell since not much is known about Bay Trail and new Atom core. But, I expect it to be much faster than Temash, which is clocked at 1 GHz... even Clover-Trail and Medfield, current gen Atoms, which are 32 nm and feature a 5 year old CPU core, clock as high as 2 GHz while using less power than a 28 nm Temash. It's also unclear how much execution units the graphics chip in Bay Trail will have... _________________

That raises some questions though. Most notably: "How will they be so cheap?"
Anyway, the answer is simple: They will run Android (Of course these are also only estimates, we shall see the actual pricing later on)
The article also says, that Windows model pricing "depends on how Microsoft prices Windows 8". But why would anyone want globally hated Windows 8 on such a device is WAY beyond me... |

I like Win8 and woudn't mind a cheap tablet with Win8 and a keyboard dock... I prefer it to Android anyway, on touchscreen devices it's very good, and with a few add ons it's no different to 7 in desktop mode, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. Thus I could take it to work and do some coding when everything's quiet. _________________
