@K0rky

Good work! I'd rather be there than sitting at my desk writing this report...

This thread woke me up. Where am I?

Oh yeah, I'm next to the fridge with the beer in it!

Right, enough typing, drinking time now.

@SpaceDruid and all,

When I have the Amiga Netbook I'll be at the "pub" rather daily.

Austin, TX has next to no pubs. I spent enough time in Derby (and central England) to catch the gist of pubs.

Should we prepare? What kind of router should I get that will simultaneously allow IRC and the ability to bootup my X1000 for info transfer while I am at the pub?

This D-Link 613 is intolerable of IRC, so I'm looking to replace it anyway.

@A1200

Hope it's not Bell's Whisky you drink...

Many moons ago when I used to work there we used to pee in the vats as they were filling as you weren't allowed to go to the loo if you were filling a vat which could take quite some time...

I won't tell you about the thick yellow road paint that used to get poured in too as that might spoil your drink a wee bit...

PS: Health & safety wasn't a big thing back in those days and anyway the guy who was in charge of that was always drunk (just like everyone else in the plant)... ahh, things were different back then...

@all

Try brewing your own beer. You don't need to go down the all grain route and can be done from can kits. I am making some hefeweizen right now and it's stupidly easy to make and works out 60p per pint :D

@Moxee

It's not as bad as it sounds Moxee, you see depending on the blend and until all the water has been added to the vat the alcohol content proof of the whisky straight from the barrel is more than enough so any germs or bacteria in the pee are instantly sterilised...

The paint is quite amazing though, the guys who job it was to paint the yellow road lines that the fork lifts & lorries had to stick too would often pass by when they were finished and pour what was left from their paint buckets into the vat and it would erupt like a small volcano spewing bright yellow froth & bubbles, a few seconds later it all disappeared and not a trace of it could be seen. After a quick dip of their brushes to clean them too they would be on their way...

PS: The whisky does go through a very thorough filtration system after leaving the vat before bottling, so don't let it put you off if you enjoy odd wee dram or two...

Nice story. Just like the bats that live in the roof of the Bacardi distillery.

@People

And that is the reason why in Scotland, we say "we are going out on the piss" when we are planing a night of drinking in fine public houses (pubs).

Though I'd assume all Americans know all American beer is made entirely out of piss. It's all collected from Scottish pub urinals (which is why American beers contain some slight traces of alcohol).

Me? I prefer to drink liquefied iron bars, or Guinness as it is known. There might be some armpit hair in there from the Irish smelter worker, but if you wait a bit, it all floats to the top with the rest of the slag.

And that is the origin of another British saying, "Did you bang that slag last night?" Meaning, did you accidentally drink some of the head of your Guinness and end up with a disease.

What a great, if disturbing, thread.

And to remind myself to go buy a mess of *good* beer for the Amiga
gatherings at AmiWest.

see you there,
