600mhz and 2 ghm is a difference :) I over clocked 7200 geforce, but even 100% overclock was poor :) so to get difference..

Well, there's always the LimeOS devices. these actually are obtainable for less than 100EUR (for an e300 @400MHz).
Anyway, a while ago I roughly sketched a project for a maximally simplified e300/400MHz 50-80 US$ singleboard computer with 512 MB Ram and a little mass storage. 400MHz e300 is good for quite some fun (actually am typing this on an e300/400), but nothing too serious though. Since I currently need most of my resources for another project I may pick up this idea next year again (well, probably a bit better spec'ed then).
On morphzone devices and projects like that were discused several times already.

There are plenty of devices using slow PPC's, also the Dreambox have been using it for years.
It's just that if you want something in the 1Ghz+ range with enough RAM and expandability only used Macs or Acubes products seems like an option.

It's the main problem with AmigaOS/MOS being PPC. The PowerPC is ok for our use but there is no HW which is usable unless it's being built for our market. Unfortunately built for our market equals low quantity and HIGH price.

indeed the problem is that a product can be usable and utterly useless at the same time. I myself wouldn't spend ¤10 on on such gear as buying a pizza would be a better thing to do with those money (go figure how many pizzas I could buy with 150...).

Usable devices (400 MHz) at reasonable prices (max 299 Euros) will be enough in an HobbyOS market like the one of Amiga to make many people upgrade their hardware, and this fact will make even enlarge our userbase to new buyers who desire to check about AmigaOS and how it works...

Competitive? The last competitive Amiga hardware was A1200 in 1992...

Simple, small and portable computer could satisfy daily needs of most users (internet) in better way than desktop computers. Tablet with touch-screen would be ideal addition to current AmigaOS based machines (even with such limited hardware features PowerPC has in this regard).

Efika was designed as thin client hardware much like the Arm hardware they are currently pushing. You don't need much in the way of resources for the purpose it was designed for.

400mhz .. who wants that ? These things aren't optimized for desktop use. I had an Efika with MorphOS 2.x and it just isn't useable. Even a 10 year old Powermac 466Mhz feels to be twice as fast when you install powermac on it.

A port to ARM or x86 is the only sure way of getting the price down and performance up.

ARM remains only a theoretical solution for the foreseeable future, since there are no purpose built MBs for dektop computers and getting/writing drivers would be difficult to say the least.

But I would be interested in a low cost low power PPC system. If OS 4.1 classic can run on those ancient machines, what's stopping it from running on a much newer and more powerful board with DDR2 RAM, SD disks...

And then there are those Sonnettech PPC CPU/RAM cards that are very cheap.

If you plan to make HW for hobbyists only there's no way you can reach EUR 299 for a complete portable solution. Look at Acubes prices and you will see what small production runs do to the price.

Nothings stopping them from porting OS4 to whatever HW they like. Hyperion just needs a good reason to do it and the HW needs to be available.

The Sonnet cards are no longer produced and has been sold out (try to place an order) . Just like old Macs it should be possible to find secondhand but perhaps you don't want to base your business on that as long as Acube is delivering.

If porting to ARM or X86 could be done without bancrupting Hyperion I'm sure they'd do it. At least I hope so because there's really no logical reasoning for the end-user to stick to PPC if there was a cheaper and better performing alternative.

Yes, 400Mhz would be OK if well optimized. Slowest SAM was 500Mhz
while OS 4.1 Classic will work on 200Mhz CPU and average of 128MB
recommended 256MB. So its OK for AOS.

Very nice, would be good if such would be the lowest end OS4 machine,
like Efika was for MOS. SAM 440 is middle, and SAM 460 and X1000 high end.
