You are posting on the wrong site for OS4 support. You should be posting on either http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz/ or http://www.amigans.net/

This site is just as relevant for Amiga/OS4 questions, it is called Amiga World after all.

I have no idea why people keep chasing people off to Hyperion's forum or Amigans when this site is much more active than either of those

But in reply to the OP, any standard USB keyboard or mouse works in my experience.
I use an Apple slim-line wired keyboard (no Windows keys!) and a mighty mouse, work fine.

@danwood

The advice was bad in the first place regarding Hyperion's forums, since the OP was obviously not a current customer.

@Panthro

Just to point out the Amiga name in Computers belongs to Amiga Inc, who recently had an agreement with the defunct Commodore USA to produce Intel based equipment under the Amiga name. Legally machines that run Amiga OS 4.x can only be called AmigaOne....

@persia

So, what's your point? Is it relevant in any way with what keyboard/mouse he can use?

@dhey59

You can use almost any usb keyboard and mouse, just keep in mind that if you buy one of those keyboards with loads of additional/multimedia keys, you might need an additional utility to configure them.

For the question I have a normal Logitech kb&mouse shared with the PC&AmigaOne.
(I actually might get the One from repair in about two weeks!?!) This are ps2 and most usb ones should work but not tested here.

Who said it was advice? Explain why you think people shouldn't be using Hyperion's forum and instead be posting their OS4 support issues here? This is an Amiga fan site, not an OS4 support site!

You've GOT to be kidding.

I told you why.

Hyperion forum requires registering a product. He clearly has no product to register.

How in the world did you not understand that?

im new to amiga os . what keyboard and moose will work

but i guess you are right.

@dhey59
i think your questions are best answered here:
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=37

you may pick a system along a dedicated (and guaranteed to work) keyboard and mouse all along with official os4 branding. a sam (440 or 460) would probably be anyway your system of choice, as even if there are alternatives they are all discontinuued and availble only second hand. nevertheless second hand might be quite an option, particularly if you could get hold of a pegasos2 or even a used sam, as this would spare you some funds. i would be cautious buying an amigaone (not the amigaone x1000 but the previous generation) because they seem to be broken by design and at the end of their life cycle anyway. i am not an active os4 user, but hope that helps.

Actually I got a keyboard AND mouse not working correctly in AOS 4. The best bet seems to be to use Logitech or Apple... I used Seitek which worked great as well.

As far as USB keyboards and mice are concerned, all brands work with any NG Amiga. What i have used for years with my μΑ1 was an Apple slim keyboard and a wireless mouse connected via its own usb dongle.

@Hondo

Haha, I was going to comment on that too ("moose"), but thought I'd let people answer the question 1st.
How would a person even plug in a moose to an amiga? Is there an adaptor available? Personally Im not sure Id even fit a moose into my amiga room.

The whole thing gives me some odd visuals, weirdly often incorporating imagery from the old TV show, "Northern Exposure".

www.imdb.com/title/tt0361925/

Both USB and PS/2 keyboards and mice are currently supported under AmigaOS4.
Of course the PS/2 is only an option of you have one on board.

It is useful (though not strictly necessary) to have an older pre-Vista keyboard that has the Alt and Menu buttons to the right of the spacebar, as many newer models have replaced the menu key with a "function" key that does not map to any keycode.

Also, while almost any keyboards and mice will work, many KVM switches can confuse the system. They are not recommended.

Finally, I thought the "Which Amiga" question was perfectly valid. We have become a rather diverse community, and each has it's own hardware and software requirements.
I could not plug a USB keyboard or mouse into any of my Commodore Amigas, though I'll wager that by adding aftermarket USB support, things are probably different today.

Are wireless touch pads supported? I hate mice.

@persia

If it appears to the USB stack as a mouse, it should work.
There is also a driver for drawing tablets, but I don't think it functions as a mouse replacement.

@dhey59

Welcome

As allready said, all keyboards should work.

With allkeys one can remap most extrakeys.

http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=utility/misc/allkeys.lha

More functionality with this.
