@A1200

Hesus, I hate publishers. Kindle version is more expensive than real book. Hardcover for $17 and ebook for $21.

Mumble-mumble.

@opi

I normally go for the Kindle these days but an Amiga book I have pre ordered the real thing. Incidentally, it seems it's available in the USA already but there is a wait in the UK - even the Kindle edition said something like the 15th May. WTF?

@A1200

You know, I got my Kindle reader for two reasons: a) to write self-publishing tools for my own writings (done) and b) to get my hands on some sweet books I need to wait to get in Poland.

And guess what? The second reason is truning out to be huge mess. It is another instance of me saying "Here, take my money" and the publishers going "Herp derp, for our convience of not having to print actual book you need to pay penalty. Oh, you're from EU? Sorry, we can't let you have it, fsck off".

Cue few months: Whaaa, people pirate stuff, whaaa, we need to shut down the Internet

// sorry

@A1200

I got my copy from Amazon today. I have just browsed a bit through the book,
but it looks very promising! So now I've got some summer reading to do...

That's *insane*! How does it make sense on any level whatsoever?!? Has that ever happened for music? Apart from special offers of course...

You could always go for the 6 used copies from $17.65 - $54.31 (plus postage)

@Daedalus
Maybe the ebook price includes:

A licensing fee for the DRM used to encrypt it.

A licensing fee for the software used to compress/decompress it.

A required contract with the publisher that demands that the ebook
version will be more expensive or the it won't get hard-copy publication.

It's all about money. Everybody wants a piece of the action

My sister bought over 1,000 children's kindle titles off e-bay the other day for £2. Soon after she noticed the listings started disappearing off e-bay. Absolutely bargain!

I remember popping into my local Waterstones, WHSSmith's and other book stores and asking if they sold vouchers for the kindle - it was almost as if I swore.

Peeling all that paper off of the text is a labor intensive job.

And they must have lowered it.

@Opi

I noticed that too and tried to find a reason for months... the only explanation i can come up with is that, usually, printed books (any printed matter to be precise) benefit from a reduced VAT but governments still haven't realized that ebooks are books so they apply the full VAT.

Funnily enough I ordered it in January and forgot about it

When it arrives I will let you know what it is like unless I get beaten to it.

OK. I don't know your tastes so I'd be attentive if you would elaborate at bit. I don't know where to read a blurb about the specific title.

Is it strictly a reference book or what?

"Is it strictly a reference book or what?"

Well. It is a reference book, but not strictly. If you know what I mean.
It's also telling the story of the Classic Amiga from 1985 to 1994 (also including UAE)...
Sort of a portrait of the Amiga, so to speak.

I love my Kindle, but I would consider this book as a collectors' item, so I would buy the printed version, if I were interested in it.

BTW. the Kindle version is 4 EUR cheaper than the hardcover version in the german Amazon shop.

Have ordered the printed version for my collection and also the Kindle version for more convenient reading. But apparently the Kindle release is a few days away, because I have to wait.

I don't have too much more room in my home for more printed books, but a nice book about my favorite computer is something I can make room for. I read the sample pages on Amazon, and they looking promising.

By the introduction, it seems an interesting book.. Just the title, says it all

@bison

Just ordered two more books:

Replay: the History of Video Games Note: when I did "look inside", it seems like most of the book you can real before buying! I got to over 100 pages and gave up previewing!

Digital Retro: The Evolution and Design of the Personal Computer
