breaking world records isn't exactly new in sports either, where is the rule that all new artists must create a new and unique medium? _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean. |

I purposefully ignore wawa's posts. It seems to limit his input to just the one baiting post.
Edit - maybe when it comes to art, wawa's posts should not be ignored (see below). Last edited by ddni on 22-Mar-2013 at 01:49 PM.

right, there should be no rules in art, through as in any other region of human activity you can observe some (empirically). one of them says, every artist should be attempting at doing something unique. the artist in question here is trying to achieve it to intentionally painting on floppy disks and the like, but beyond that even his painting style looks rather conservative, and fairly (but its just me (im not your regular artist in this respect) i cant discover much message behind those pretty faces he paints. to me it looks more a hipster trick without much actual content.
of course, coming from berlin scene since nineties, i may have seen just enough of painting on scrap.. btw, here some a little older and more prominent examples of such approach:
robert rauschenberg (combine paintings) https://www.google.de/search?q=robert+rauschenberg&hl=de&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=eDhMUbvPH4KStQap74HwBQ&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1600&bih=1075
jasper johns (similar as rauschenberg an artist between pop art and the american abstract expressionism, note the flag, according to joseph kosuth painting that ended painting, because it exposes no illusional space anymore, only the surface) https://www.google.de/search?q=jasper+johns&hl=de&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=FT5MUavqC4faswbggoCoDQ&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1600&bih=1075
julian schnabel (note the fabric and plate paintings, a bit kitchy and pretender but i like him, did some not that bad films as well): https://www.google.de/search?q=julian+schnabel&aq=f&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=de&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=mDlMUeKfBYnqswbSooDYCg&biw=1600&bih=1075&sei=njlMUZmHFc7AswaPooG4Cg
tim rollins & k.o.s. (popular in the nineties social project of an artist painting with kids from bronx on book pages, kafkas america and the like) https://www.google.de/search?q=tim+rollins&hl=de&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=ij1MUZC-IsvxhQfU6YCgDQ&ved=0CDwQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=1038
what do you think of that? probably not much, because its not digital storage media, they are painting on, and therefore this doesnt cross your (computer related) attention field. however art shouldnt be just as simple taken.
hmm.. this friend of mine would probably do score better: https://www.google.de/search?q=gregor+hildebrandt&hl=de&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=yztMUfeKF9DjtQappYHYCA&ved=0CDEQsAQ&biw=1600&bih=1075
said that, im not trying to impose my views on you, only - so to say - sharing a professional opinion, since youve crossed my field. edit: typosLast edited by wawa on 22-Mar-2013 at 01:53 PM. Last edited by wawa on 22-Mar-2013 at 11:34 AM.

I'd be a fan if he's using dead floppies. But if he's destroying perfectly good floppy disks... _________________ Men who have girlies in their avatars are Girliemen! |

Yep in one of his pictures, he painted over a full copy of Amiga Putty Squad.

The captions stated the materials were donated, so in that respect the "pirates" were the original owners of the disks rather than the artist himself. _________________ Test sig (new) |

I doubt that would fly if he carved statues out of cannabis resin. |

Luckily, there's still a world of difference between those two _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). No worries! As long as he did that carving in Colorado or Washington state. _________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤
