I stumbled upon this video on Youtube , not many people have seen this (127 views) . There's an interview with Jay Miner and roundtable talks with the designers about Amiga.

@Paladine

It's been on another guys YouTube channel for years but gets very little viewers (16,673) in the grand scheme of things... guess most folk today have either forgotten about the Amiga or simply aren't interested in it's history...

@Paladine

Thank you mate.
I'll take a look at it asap. I hope that the incoming movie "Viva Amiga" (Kickstarter project) will do good the the cause.

Keep the faith alive!
Best regards

I bet all the computers back then had interesting stories behind them. But it's true that the Amiga had a turbulent time and has one of the most interesting back stories. Modern pc's don't seem to have this character to them.

Which is a shame.

It has nothing of appealing for the modern audience...

Too much interviews in the first part... Look at count of viewers... 16.000 for the first part, 7400 the second part, 5500 for the third...

Viewers get only Amiga creators saying blah, blah...

It could interest us who are long time Amiga addicted, but people from outside are just asking to themselves "what these guys are talking of?

There is no stunning graphics, or graphic transition between an interview and antother... No 3D graphic reconstruction of ambients in which Amiga was made, or testimonies depicting 1980's Computers Industry situations as in modern documentaries.

Parts are just 6 minutes long, while nowadays youtube make possible to upload the entire video without cutting it in pieces...

It is really a home-made documentary.

It sure needs to be rewritten, the interviews must be put in the better climax moments as "interludes" separating the view of an amiga animation/funny fact/history reconstruction videos from another one, and so on.

It also requires a good director and a better editing to make the people be appealed by the Amiga history.

The "Modern audience" as you call em (mainly young folk I call em but not all) have the attention span of a dead Nat I tend to find and if it aint short and shiny with all those "stunning graphics" and "fancy wipes" then there aint nothing of interest in a video for them, as of course the actual story/ content of the video doesn't matter to them and is of no significance...

YouTube does make it possible to upload videos these days greater than the initial 15 minute limit...
Most folk though don't take advantage of that and apply for the "unlimited extension" (or in some case wait for it to be automatically applied to your account)...

Here's the thing though, Even YouTubes own official figures for "audience retention" show that...

Videos of greater than 3 Minutes 20 seconds the average viewing retention figures drop to around 85%

Videos longer than 6 minutes drop to around 60% of viewers retained...

Videos longer than 10 to 12 minutes drop to just around 34% of viewers retained...

and Videos longer than 20 minutes drop to less than 3% of viewers retained...

When it comes to posting long videos on YouTube there isn't much point as only a tiny proportion of people will watch them all the way through...

So you see you can add all the "ooh shiny" you want to a video but if it's any longer than 10 minutes in length then even all the "ooh shiny" in the world isn't going to make the majority of a "modern audience" view it all the way to the end... which is a pretty sad reflection on what you term the "Modern Audience"...

Another way of looking at it: "Why has the community hid this video for so long?" I've been looking for this video for years! I mean, I saw this last year, but I've been searching for videos like this for years previously. Thankfully we have Youtube so now videos like this may pop up and be seen by more people.

I'm sure your generation had its fare share of short attention spanned people.

As an example, I watch a lot of old B&W movies on TCM ( ie: TCM UK ) and a lot of these tend to be short films as well. We might live in a 100+ channel universe, but I only watch 4 channels and TCM is one of them. If they start streaming this from the web, I'm getting rid of cable tv!

It's also available for Free Download from many other sites on the net as well as YouTube...

Hopefully though for all those who find this video too old fashioned and boring then VIVA AMIGA should be glitzy enough for them when it gets released (not sure how their going to cope with the length of it though or the fact it will contain many interviews, suppose they can use "skip" on their DVD players to dodge those)...
