Just when everybody thought there were no more CommVEx 2012 videos, I've pulled another one out of my hat! Veteran programmer/developer Jim Drew speaks at length about his involvement with Commodores and Amigas in the 1980's and 1990's, including his work with the companies, Utilities Unlimited and Megasoft. To see the video, "Jim Drew at CommVEx v8 2012", go to

Jim drew made the big froudlent software of the history of the Amiga platform ... the name of this is Ifusion ...
I know in 2000-2001 some people gave to him and joe fenton big amount of money for have this software work... but we know not working or better write working slow on some specific hardware CyberstormPPC with Cybergraphix ...

No Blizzardppc
No P96
No Aga
No direct device access
No Audio ...

... if i was there i will make this question to him...
Why you take money from amiga user and vanish?
Why you take some parts of the Mol sources ...
Why you take some parts of shapeshaver sources ....
Why you never finish your project and not geve the sources for free to the community???

@tlosm

First of all, nobody "gave" us any money for software. They paid for a product that was based strictly on the Cyberstorm PPC board, as that was the only PPC board available when iFUSION was created.

Secondly, we certainly did not take money and vanish. I sold iFUSION to Blittersoft and moved on to the PC market, writing FUSION-PC.

Obviously, it was not possible to take parts of Mol or Sheepshaver, because iFUSION was the first (and only) PPC Mac emulation available while I still owned it.

I SOLD the product not long after the first version was released. The source code, production rights, name, etc. was all SOLD. So, there is no way to release sources for something that I don't own.

So, again. I released it and then was offered a bunch of money for it, and I took it. :) Then I moved on to the PC market. Simple as that.

@tlosm

I was using both Emplant, Fusion and iFusion.
The two first was great when it came to emulation, the later one was kinda immature, but I'm not sure I would entirely blame MS for that, they used the "official" path of WarpOS which in the end was a very lousy solution IMO.

I recall iFusion needed a special beta-version of WOS for my CSPPC and that was never official released on behalf of H&P and the support for BPPC cards on the same software never materialized for some reasons.

@Develin

I know they are great right now i think are the best Mac Emulators for amiga ...but
ifusion ... gosh... orrible there wasnt no gui interface setting , no Lan emulation ... pratically the only thing that was run was the Os 9... the 75% of the other software crash or was too slow on my cyberstorm PPC 233...
What mede me really sad and hungry is ... now i have a Cyberstorm with 375mhz 604e ... and a Mediator with radeon 9200 and i cant use this crappy thing.
...
About immature software we can speak about an "alpha state".
No Aga, No picasso96, no lan and no guy ... i think this are not all because of warpos "special procedures"...

some old news about...
http://amiga.czex.com/history/1_01e.html

28.1.2001 iFusion PPC Update From BlitterSoft
Blittersoft are pleased to announce that they have received the iFusion code from Microcode-Solutions for final testing prior to release.
"iFusion has been successfully tested on CyberStorm 060/PPC systems, and we are currently testing on Blizzard 040/PPC systems."
As soon as these tests are complete, iFusion will be ready to ship. Expect a full in-depth review in AmigActive soon.

26.2.2001 iFUSION: More info
"We received the new A1200 with the 1D4 motherboard, and it made no difference. We have further tracked down the problem to something in the hw.library's task switching. We are still looking into the problem, but in the mean time, we are preparing for shipping."

Jim Drew via c.s.a.e
Microcode solutions website

21.2.2001 iFUSION: More info
"Apparently, there is a problem with the BlizzardPPC hardware working with certain revisions of the A1200 motherboards. People running MorphOS on the Blizzard are reporting that only the Rev 1.D4 motherboards will work with the Blizzard and MorphOS, even though any version motherboard works with the WarpOS. My feeling is that there is some sort of hardware timing problem, most likely in the MMU usage, that is affecting the operation with 1.D1/2A/2B motherboards. One other person noted that 50ns RAM allowed an older motherboard to work just fine with MorphOS.

We have Rev 1.A1 boards here (we got them the 1st week of release from the U.K.). I will have a 1.D4 machine here today for testing. If this does not resolve the problem, then we will make preparations for contacting all pre-ordered customers and letting them know that we will be shipping a version that may not run on their hardware currently. If it works with the Rev 1.D4 boards, we will ship with a note stating so... and we will continue to track down exactly why this problem exists and possibly correct it in software.

I appreciate all of the responses, and I look forward to technical support questions pertaining to PowerMac emulation. "

2.2.2001 iFUSION release really near?
MS: "We have completed debugged the 68060/PPC card with iFUSION(tm). The BlizzardPPC card for the A1200 does not work AT ALL. We will have a board here tomorrow (02/02/2001) to determine the problem, and then we can prepare for shipping!
We have included a new screenshot that we did today after running Speedometer 4.02. This PPC card is the Phase5 board with a 150Mhz 604e PowerPC chip and 50Mhz 68060 chip. Compare this against FUSION running on an 040 or 060 Amiga and you can see that even in the 68K emulation mode (OS9.04), it is very fast, especially for only a 150Mhz PPC!"
Screen shots and more information can be found here.

"It is also likely now that we will take our PowerPC based x86 emulation core from "PowerClone" (a PowerMac based PC emulator) and put it into PCx to make an updated PC emulator for the Amiga."

21.4.2001 iFUSION News
Paul Lesurf, Blittersoft:
1. Blittersoft have purchased the rights to the Amiga version of iFusion.
2. This includes the possible port to Elate (AmigaDE).
3. It is our intention to work continuously with Jim/Joe on the further development on the Amiga version of iFusion.

Blittersoft are committed to the Amiga platform, classic and AmigaDE. We are committed to enhancements and will work with Microcode Solutions to see bug fixes made a pay for new features. All this has been agreed.

There was an error on the version of iFusion on the first CD release. However, MS have already provided an updater and a new version (even newer than the one I missed!) So as can be seen, support will be there."

ExiE

18.10.2001 iFusion and BlizzardPPC
Jim Drew: "We hope that A1200/BlizzardPPC owners will be using their emulation very soon. We have likely isolated the problem to be with the 603e. The 603e uses a software based MMU lookup table as opposed to a hardware based table used in all other PowerPC CPUs. We are relatively certain that if the Blizzard had a 603, 604, or 604e, there would be no problems.
Our developer card has a 603e, and does work fine, but the configuration of this card (memory base and such) is completely different. We are investigating ways to correct this problem."

1.8.2002 iFusion Depends on the Market!
"[..] I asked Virtual Programming's sales deaprtment the following: 'Will Virtual Programming be continuing sale of the FUSION and iFUSION products for the Amiga in the future? Will the company be continuing the development of the product with Jim Drew and Microcode Solutions?'
Answer:
'It depends upon the market. Certainly there is no market for the classic Amiga now, but we are in touch with the right people to see about an OS4 version of iFusion. We will have to see how this develops.'"

Shouldn't delivering either non-functional (BlizzardPPC) or half-functional (CyberStormPPC) software for 150 GBP, then considering the situation resolved, be a illegal? [ExiE]

Like I said, after the first version was created (which was not long after the Cyberstorm PPC card was available, and not yet released to the public), I sold the product to Blittersoft. We continued to work on it to help patch the Cyberstorm issues - but it was no longer something that Microcode Solutions owned, and others besides us were working on it. My focus was the PC market at that point, not the Amiga market, and I had no obligation to continue or support the product - that was the job of Blittersoft. However, in good faith, we did continue to help out as much as possible while creating FUSION-PC.

If you made a P96 driver and a lan support for ifusion i think more people will be less ungry with you and joe.

Today Fusion PC have no sense ... Basilisk 68k II is free, there are Hakintosh systems, Vmware, Qemu, Parallels desktop, Virtualbox and so and so...

Call joe fenton and made Fusion PPC Os4 ... and please this time made it working and with all the thing need for have an usable emulator thanks :)

interesting to see you in person, so you are the guy who did asm emulation of 040 for x86? (weve met in that aorg thread about 060 fpga replacement, remember?) i must admit i missed most of your stuff in amiga era and i had to google for it, most prominently that controverse about ifusion, firstly becuse i have not used mac emulation much anyway, but especially as i considered the whole ppc/warpos story a huge and expensive mistake, and ive never got a ppc card for amiga until early 2k, which i did mostly to discover that i was right all along;)

you know, i think it would cause much less bad blood if the users here were paying more attention, what they are investing they money in. i dont know this particular case, but i know many others in the whole "amiga" community, and i observe also the users attitude, likely same now as then, which is to waste money on unrealistic projects, assume things that actually were never told, or pay without actually demanding results or asking questions.

Where do people like you come from? I haven't seen any real posting effort from you before and as soon as you have a personal experience of something that went bad over a decade ago, you seemed to have found this thread and have started some attack on someone else. Surely you don't want a refund or someone to say sorry or whatever for a 10+ year old transaction?

I guess you lurk on here until you have something to add which in this case is where's the damn source code, or why didn't x product do what it said it would?

The trouble with us Amigans is we have too long memories. Governments would never see 2 terms if the general populous photographically memorised every detail as we do on here. Perhaps they should good people, perhaps they should.

Maybe you were ripped off / mis-sold / misunderstood, maybe you weren't. Who cares? Who still is waiting for their Amiga Inc T-Shirt?! Let it go guys, let it go....

I'd like an apology from Ben Hermans for a similar situation.

Its NEVER too late to say "sorry" to anyone.

As you know you are never going to get one why not "put it to bed" in your own mind or you will hold onto baggage that the only person that is harmful to is you. And if you are still aggrieved by something as insignificant as a failed OS or some port or he owed you for a Big Mac, then I would say get over it. Hell, even if he ripped you off for thousands, you have to move on and not keep digging up the past.

If he went into your house with an AK47 and mowed down people close to you, then you can stay mad.
