To my big dismay the society feels very "low" these days with a lots of disapoinment, hidden anger and such. Therefore I make an initiative for a thread were only positive comments and news may be posted. They must of course be about Amiga. I count all clones as Amiga (incl. MorphOS, WinUAE and AROS).

I start with one my self: I really long for AmigaOS 4.2. I will post a list of features I have put togheter later today.

edit x3: A number of typos.

@Niolator

Even when I have to use Window$ I'm happy since my AmigaForever emulator is always by my side.

@Niolator

i am amiga only but at times i have to ask myself why i am so as the whole community is so negative and no progression is made except for forum banter.

but it is also days like this where you start a positive thread and that helps and also there has been a lot of positivity around on various irc channels and amiga sites lately so i am all ok.

@Niolator

I use AmigaOS4 and MorphOS to see videoclips for example and AmigaOS3.9 to make gif animations, and to play too.

Well; still got mine, A4000 Z7 tower 060/ppc 233 with 3 monitors, Vlab Motion
and lots of other stuff, still gets use.

It's such a lovely interface (OS 3.9 + CGX ), very responsive.
Something that's not possible on so called modern os's.

Wol..

@Niolator

While we wait for AmigaOS 4.2 I find that AmiUpdate has made the waiting much easier.
Having individual fixes and updates available as soon as possible without a few months wait is much better.

I'll admit it was easier for me a few years ago when I stayed mostly to myself. Except for the occasional NCSCAUG meeting I was pretty much a "Lone Ranger"

But the current state is really a lot better than many people admit. AmigaOS is not "perfect", and it's not "finished", but it is very useful, very stable, and a whole lot of fun to play with.

Just a few days ago I was reading some classic magazines from bombjack, it was a great trip down memory lane, but it also showed clearly how far we have come. Our audio, video, MIDI, and networking are WAY ahead of what they were, and USB was non-existent on my classic machines, so that's a double plus.

I still love and respect the classics, but I am also VERY happy with the modern evolution of AmigaOS.

OK, so sometimes progress comes a bit slowly.. but it is definitely still moving forward.
I never imagined I would get to be the first to access Xena from an OS4 command line. And I was probably the first to hear AHI play through the HDAudio driver.. Not only is that progress, but it's progress that I got to help with!

And running on a modern graphics card? Really?? Who would have predicted that even a few short years ago? It used to be that running Amiga meant giving up ANY standard hardware.. we couldn't even use a normal mouse or keyboard on the classics.

I spend a few days on a winblows box, no fun at all. Linux is not bad, but it's not "my" OS either. AmigaOS is my choice, and it still has all the "Fun Factor" that it ever had, for me at least.

Just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own.

MorphOS seems to generally support PowerBook better than Debian "out-of-the-box".

It's definitely possible to fix some "issues" on debian with additional configuration, of course, but at least video playback will probably stay faster.

Debian issues:
-Impossible to type some characters
-No way to press RMB with touchpad
-No sound
-Doesn't show battery information
-Sites like youtube work WAY better
-Better video playback
-Adds 2nd useless boot menu. "Seems like you selected 2nd operating system of 3 to boot. Maybe you changed your mind and would like to boot to 3rd instead? What, you want 1st? Tough luck, can't let you do that, Dave." (Sure I would have been surprised IF it recognized MorphOS, but why have 2nd menu after the first?)

And yes, some of these can be fixed, some easier than the others. Mostly talking of "out of the box experience" here.

Very nice, enabling MorphOS to be run on PPC expanded Classics,
thus making similar PPC bridge as OS4 Classic did!

Nice touch, more dual boot systems (triple with Linux!)

Please inform us here of MorphOS for SAM 460 port progress!
