@mcbone

While A1 500 is great system for AmigaOS 4, its limited in expandability. X1000 is huge beast, but expensive and hard to get (there is a registered demand line). You can buy A1 500 complete system for about 1 000 euros, while X1000 is about more then two times expensive. But its more then twice powerful and way more expandable.

Acorn Archimedes was a great home computer, sadly never became so popular as Amiga or Atari. Its RiscOS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RISC_OS is still developed.

Back to story, as East Europe had many trade barriers back in 80s and 90s, and then we had civic wars in Yugoslavia, embargo and awful poverty, we had to lag behind and drool on what was IT fashion with high prices at that time. A1200 that was 800DEM in Germany was 1600DEM while our salaries were something like 3-100 DEM. So not only in ex-Yugoslavia, but in whole East Europe, having a computer was sacrifice and achievement, and I am so proud of Yugoslav, Hungarian, Polish ... scenes for these reasons.

So I had
Spectrum 48k
Commodore 64 with cassette player, not even a floppy
A1200 with 80MB HD and later added 3,5" HD, CD ROM, 020/28Mhz, FPU and FAST RAM and Amiga OS 3.5

Not a greatest collection of all times, but enough to learn what is needed and test most of software-

While some ppl have really impressive lists of possessed hardware I kept it always short and straight:
Started with an A500, changed to A600HD, then A1200/PowerUp. The A1200/PowerUp marked the transition to PowerPC and MorphOS. Later it got replaced by A Pegasos PPC with MorphOS which eventually got replaced by a 1.5 Ghz G4mac mini and a 1.67 Ghz G4 Powerbook which both are running MorphOS - and thus still some of the same software as my A500 did 25 years ago.
25 years of nonstop Amiga computing - a very straight evolution line!

Okay, I also have and had some x86/arm kit, but who's interested in that boring stuff anyway - it's there for convenience and completeness.

Hi, oh and welcome to Amigaworld by the way.

I can't really comment on the Amigaone X1000 or amigaone 500 but as Vox says which is best for an individual depends on how much you want to spend and how expandable you want the machine.
Both can use HD graphic and sound cards with drivers in development now for OS4.2.

OS4.2 is moving on at a steady pace and is quite stable on my XE, some of my problems are down to buggy hardware, I thinks its probably far more stable on the above 2 machines.

Again as Vox has said the Archimedes is also a very good machine it offered better graphic modes to the Amiga 500 it was up against and 8 channel stereo sound instead of the 4 of the Amiga. Its downfall was probably arriving on the market later and getting less support as a result.

The VIC slim from Commodore USA (Commodore in name only by part) is a PC in a keyboard style case and could be looked upon as a continuation of the original Commodore's PC range rather than their Amiga and 8bit ranges. It will run Linux (Commodore USA's OS based on Ubuntu) or Windows. Dare say you could put AROS on it for a more Amiga like experience.
They also made a C64 style case for PC boards.

Its no longer on sale, and its actually an Amiga and Commodore abuse, to sell repacked and rebranded existing PC hardware for higher prices. Most of details of that horror story are avail at http://anticusa.wordpress.com and here at http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewforum.php?sortname=p.post_time&sortorder=DESC&sortdays=1000&forum=44&refresh=Go

So, your choice remains of AmigaOne 500/SAM 460 (ACube srl) and AmigaOne X1000.

I will ask just once for the whole CUSA saga to be left in the past. We know very well how you feel and felt about them, but this is now the third thread I've seen you posting in and bringing them up again.

I understand that you (we) are fed up with Vox's puny website and propaganda-fashioned ramblings, but perhaps for once, just for once, here he's being informative :)

I ll try not to ramble and angry you again, and was informative and helpful before ... that thing ... came and will continue to do so. Being here since 2005, you could complain on my behav just in last year, but in my defense I can only say it was heavily provoked and hope such episodes will never come back (meaning the cause).

And will listen to mr. moderators advice

@mcbone

In chronological order;

Atari 2600*
ZX Spectrum+2A (failed and refunded under warranty)
ZX Spectrum+2 (I think one of my brother's freinds has it)
Sam Coupé
Amiga 500
CD32
Amiga 1200 (sold)
Amiga 1200 (broken/gave to AmigaKit for spares)
AmigaONE XE/G4 (sold last year)
AMD Athlon based PC built for Amithlon.
AmigaONE XE/G4 (sold)
IBM Thinkpad laptop (stolen when my home was burled)
Toshiba Satellite Pro Laptop.
Intel Core 2 based PC built for general Windows tasks.
AmigaONE X1000

*My brother bought this with no PSU at a car boot sale so he wired it directly to the mains using an old headphone socket. Needless to say, we never got to use it.
