New hardware for Classic Amigas?

Classic Amigas haven't been abandoned. Everybody knows that. They sell like crazy even now. We have some new hardware like Indivision AGA for A1200 and Deneb USB card for A4000 systems and others. This is a great addition, comparing the time these machines launched and today.

Of course we are looking for new hardware components for our Classic Amigas. How about a new Zorro graphics card or even a brand new accelerator for both A1200 and A4000? Anybody who can dig more information?

@Phantom

Well, I have some news from Elbox.
Talked with them 3 days ago about new hardware for classic Amigas. Sales person over phone told me that they want to release Dragon HW first but they already changed specification a bit. Now they waiting for a 400 Mhz Coldfire processor to Dragon and when they have it they will sent Dragon to factory.
I also asked about time frame but they are not sure, meybe Christmas meybe in new year, nothing is for sure in this comapny.
After Dragon they want release Shark...

How about a new Amiga compatible: Natami?

@fibi

The story of SharkPPC I heard it before.

@Flashlab

I watch Natami forums every day. But when Natami will be available, it doesn't mean that we have to sell our original Amigas, have we?

@Phantom

No of course not, but it will give you an Amiga compatible many times more powerful than current classic hardware. Therefore it fills the gap in creating Zorro cards or other classic hardware. I mean I don't really need a new expansion for my classic if Natami comes out.

I just hope Natami will become a reality and will be as compatible as my current system.

With this configuration you have, I don't think you want something else.

My problem is the A4000T I own is what 13 years old? My A3000s are close to 18 years then. How long do we realistically expect these to run?

The 'best' hardware for my systems would be some sort of Zorro III to PCI bridge so from the Sam or AmigaOne systems you can access the older chips and system. Run that software on the other computer while I run A4 on the current hardware.

Won't happen in this real time world. Left-over Amiga market from 15 years ago is too small to supply.

@all

Natami is our best shot, preferably in Amiga Fantasy case.

Dragon and Shark are fantasy projects. And, if they even come out, they can not be used without mediator if I am not wrong, and D-Box is necessary...

When we sum all this prices, it goes sky high... and base of that Amiga is motherboard which is 15 years old.....

So, I think Natami is best shot....

Elbox could make business if they produced Shark for Natami.....

To be perfectly honest, I never understood the logic behind releasing the coldfire based Dragon over the Shark. Surely it would be more beneficial to have a faster PPC card out there so that more classic users could make use of OS4 (should Hyperion be willing to add support for the Shark).

However, as already voiced by some members, the classic hardware which is required to use both Dragon and Shark, is getting on for 16 years of age. The chances of it failing and rendering your brand new Shark/Dragon board useless increases with each passing day, and it isn't as though you can easily get them fixed or replaced.

I personally would be more inclined to purchase new hardware such as the SAM440 than the dragon or shark, simply because it is new hardware, and easily fixed/replaced if faulty.

Well, at the moment it's still possible to buy a new A1200 mobo from Amigakit.
If that lasts 15 years, Shark/Mediator combo would still have its uses.

@OldAmigan

"New" as in new old stock, still makes it a 16 year old board whichever way you look at it, and as such, still liable to fail without much usage.

Assuming it is one of the AT/Escom machines, it may have been built in 1994, so still a good 14 years old.

In either case, a new motherboard manufactured within the last 3 months is still preferable to a machine tooled 14-16 years ago.

Many of the A1200s and stuff they sell at amigakit and the like are actually refurbs. I'm assuming they've gone through and checked all the components that might fail and have fixed/replaced any that look like they might be at the end of their days. Replacing capacitors, f'rex. Oh yes, and they also do the same with your own machine it you send it to them to check for same.

But, yeah... I'm keeping my eye on the natami, too...

And my A1200 bit the dust a coupla months back...

We have new classic amiga on sale today they are called minimgs they are not perfect but they are worth all the hard work that went into creating them.

If we support the creaters and the manufactures they will evolve from A500 replacements to A1200 replacements.

We just have to be willing to put our money ware our mouths are.

I am not asking people to give up on OS4 and hardware to run it on I have ordered a sam as well just spit off there amiga games playing needs from their needs to use creative software like ImageFX4 and other creative software.

As I mentioned in my report of the Commodore Scene meeting 2008 and my Visit to AmigaKit, there were many boxes of new, unopened Amigatech A1200s stacked to the ceiling. In fact, AmigaKit brought 3 of the new, unopened A1200s to sell at the October AmiWest Show.

Matthew Leaman of AmigaKit.com sells only new materials on the website; if you want used items, you have to specifically ask for them.

If you search, there are still new, unopened A1200s out there, including the one that Louie D. of Computer Connection tried to sell at the AmiWest Show.

@Cav

I don't understand really this. I see Ataris 2600 and ZX Spectrum running and working 100%, so why not our Amigas? If you take care of them, then there is nothing to be afraid of.
