transfer real Amiga files to Laptop?

Hi there

I installed fantastic AmiKIT to my Acer Laptop and would like to transfer lots of files from my real & working Amiga, but I have no idea how to do it.

So several ideas comes to my mind:

1) On Amiga I have Nec ZIP 100 drive installed into tower case and maybe I can buy external Zip drive for Laptop [USB one]. What do you think?

2) Copying Amiga files from Amiga HD to PC formatted HD Rack and then connecting that old PC hard disk to Laptop? But how? Is there HardDisk-to-USB connector?

3) Best would be attaching USB to real Amiga but - it does connect to ClockPort [everything connects to clock port!] and I already have there 2 cards, so there will be not more space for anything else]...

4) ??? Any ideas?

...

@djnick

Aside from connecting the HD directly to the PC (easy with towers, slightly more complicated with a lappy and USB only), you could always dump the lot of a CF card (assuming you both have a CF-IDE type job for the Amiga, and a CF card reader built in to your laptop).

4) Buy a cheap CD burner for the amiga & transfer that way, your laptop should have a DVD/CD drive.

Do you have web access with the Amiga ?
If so just lha what ever you want and ftp it
to any of the sites that have free hosting.
Then down load on the pc and there you go !

If you want a whole bunch of ADF's for you AmiKit, instead of fumbling around with a How To, perhaps it may be easier to go to this website :

www.thegamearchives.com/

Just a thought.

complicated?

http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=323067

how on earth can that be complicated? 4 screws and a cable, no drivers needed.

@olegil

Indeed, I have one of those 2.5" drives (in fact, that exact one, from komplett.ie and all!) and it works just like any external hard drive.

I've never used one in WinUAE/Amiga Forever/AmiKit though so I don't know if that'd be more complicated... Bear in mind the drive's Amiga formatted so it won't show up in Windows Explorer. What about one of the ADF transfer kits like this one:

AmigaKit Clicky

A USB card reader will be able to read the card, and you can probably get a card reader, a 1GB card and that transfer kit for less than ¤40, and you don't have to open up your existing Amiga!

@djnick

Does your real Amiga have ethernet? Network it across if possible.

Yep, I've done this. Although as far as I know all Zip disk drives are Iomega (no NEC version)! Very easy & quick. Zip Disks have always proved reliable to me. Just pick up a powered USB version of the drive for your laptop and remember to install the correct mountlists on the 'miggy to recognise PC disks. I can quite happily transport files on a 100mb or 250mb Zip disk - very handy.

@olegil

I did say "slightly more" as in not as simple as just plugging a data and power cable in, and then finding the drive in UAE to mount it.

NEC and Epson made them under license, I've still got an old Epson one laying around somewhere.

@BigD

Thank you for your idea. I didn`t use ZIP for ages [I have 100MB zip diskettes, if I am not wrong] and USB ZIP for Laptop will be my saviour! This seems the easiest way to transfer files.

Also - what about Ethernet card? I have never used such thing, and I also don`t know where should I put it. Maybe PCMCIA port? I was not into the Miggy in the last 5-6 years but would like to make it useable again :)

As my Amiga is towered, I guess I should connect that card to PCMCIA port? It is the only one port that is free. As my Amiga is in other town, I will have to travel there and see what I can do. Zip is tbe best way for now. Just would need PARALLEL-TO-USB card and I will be able to attach HPLaserJet6M+ printer to Laptop.

I got email from WinUAE programmer - he said he never tried Parallel-to-USB cable and to attach old printer, but he is sure it will work.
