Our press release of May 22nd, 2012: AMIGA MEETS GIGAHERTZ

Gideon Zweijtzer (of 1541-Ultimate fame) and Rutger Bevaart have teamed up to bring renewed innovation to the Classical Amiga by announcing the UltimatePPC today, the ultimate CPU expansion card for the Amiga 3000 & 4000. This new card will bring unparalleled performance and many great new features to the Amiga series of computers that were not available previously and give current users a viable upgrade path for aging components. It also opens new possibilities for newer versions of the Amiga Operating System or alternatives to run on your classic hardware with great performance. The UltimatePPC puts your Amiga right back on your desk as the most versatile and fun computer that has ever existed!

Right now the UltimatePPC is in active development, we expect to be able to take pre-orders at the end of 2012. Please visit our project website at http://ultimateppc.nl for availability information, specifications and detailed status reports.

@Uitgang

If i only had this piece of HW many years ago when i had the A4000. I loved it. Too bad that new cyberstorm didnt come to realise. The same for elbox. Dont remember the name of it. Anyway this news is positive for the ones still running a A3000/A4000 and/or dont want to get an NG machine.

Some more megahertz and more memory to the a3k/a4k users :)

If price is good then I will look into fitting one into my green screening A3000D.

Obviously once she is fixed up.

The Green screen of doom! I have been down that road befrore. This problem is usually chip ram/Fat Agmus related. You either have bad Chip ram (0ne or more chips) or you need to reseat the Agnus chip. The last one is a lot easier to troubleshoot :)

Finally, a decent modern card for classics..with more than enough memory and USB expansion ports, SATA suport...
If this project get Hyperion support and an version for A1200 come in future migration to modern hardware and OS4.x will be complete.

I am not hyperion, but i somehow sure no one will worry about it. Not hyperion, not morphos team, no one. The reassons are:

1) its not done, and no one know if ever will and when, but time is going on

2) why anyone should care about 100, almost died, computers at all ? there is suprsise that hyperion and mos-team even worry about classic amigas.

3) why anyone should spend precios time on it at all, if there is a loooot of other work to do ? In case with hyperion, there is sams, x1000, netbook which need work. Holy, only that with knowing that only 2 persons (brothers) mostly works on all of this, it will take a years (to add any kind of possible project in which they involved : firefox, gallium and so on). All those talks about smp , and anything else what dreampipe smokers smoke every day also somehow supposed to be done ?

4) and hyperion, and mos team, have already a lot of different kind of HW, so worring about one more annoucement of accelerator for classic make no sense, if they want a progress (and they want it, because without progress they will loose interest and developing will stops).

AFAIK no recent version of it runs on any Classic Amiga?

(And for those with hyper-sensitive paranoia, this is NOT intended as bashing MorphOS. Their choice seems quite reasonable IMHO.)

Nope. MOS-Team said they see no point on squeezing new and powerful stuff into limited classic line. Someone told me that they also rejected a port for this board, but take it with a grain of salt, it might be on Moo. :->

1)
I think this design whit FPGA in middle there gives the new card some flexibility, so guess there is not so many things that can go, really, really bad whit it, only the choice of CPU I think, they have not shown anything booting on it yet, or any functional tests.

2)
Considering that Hyperion did port OS4.1 to classic, I say they have not given up on it just yet, anyway this has to be considered a new hardware platform, this might be more work then its worth we see. (But then again many things are labor of love in Amiga world.)

3)
It is not just two people working at Hyperion, classic development of OS4.1 was done by Karl Churchill (Karlos), he might be the key to getting this done.

Good work 'Gideon & Rutger', this is really great news.

Finally some guys who really try to do something cool rather than 'blabla' in a forum!

If it is out, I'll buy one for sure!
Finally my A3000D will get a new purpose!

Keep up the good work...

Seems Darren Eveland is the person most involved with classic OS4.x.

Sure there is not two ppls in hyperion, there is more (i am betatester in end), but what i mean its kernel area and co (what is need it to do to make porting of os4 or whatever to any new HW / CPU and co).

Anyway, I give you 99% no one from active teams will suport it (because no point at all). Its all usuall story for dreampipe smokers. Waiting few years, then do nothing with it if it ever will be out.

I assume only some aros devs, just for some fun will play with it if it ever will out. But seeing that no one from aros worry too much about ppc version of aros at all, i have there doubts as well.

Its just 2012 today. Even for amiga freak time is going on :)

Already done with first AmigaOne models, and now with Pegs, SAMs and X1000

Its good to see another Classic users dream of having fast PPC card will be done.
Surely its good they will have AmigaOne class CPU in it, but other bottlenecks will remain.

Surely, AmigaOS 4.1 Classic could be easily adopted to support it, even more likely then MorphOS 2.x

The problem is this card can`t be cheap, so this time it will really be Ferrari in Fiat 500

@vox

but never done on anything called genuinely an "amiga". might be interested in that, if it wasnt so late, if it was promising an integrated solution for at least one amiga fraction (no software support in sight from neither os4, mos, aros, warpup/powerup and what concerns pure 68k there are faster solutions), if it was reasonably open, inviting and close to be done. but i wish the devs all the best, much fun and a completed effort in a near future, then we will see..
