How Many Real Long Term Amiga Users Are Still Around And Only Use The Amiga Today For All Their Computing Needs...

NOTE: I know how many of you think about the following subject but please don't start ranting and raving that what I am about to say is somehow an insult to certain users as IT'S NOT.. or go whining to the mods about it...

It is simply a question I have been curious about for a long time and is my own opinion on this subject, so if you take offence to it for some bizarre reason then all I can say is you are wrong and that is your problem for not understanding what I am about to say/ ask...

How many Amiga users have and still do to this very day use REAL Amiga hardware for all their computing needs by that I mean...

Using genuine Commodore Amiga hardware...

Using said hardware for all your computing needs...

And how long have you being doing so...

Myself I have been using Commodore Amigas everyday for all my computing needs since 1986 and will do so until the day I kick the bucket...

So who else out there is still like me and only uses the REAL original Commodore Amigas to this very day for all their computing needs...

@thread

This is a legitimate question, being asked in a polite manner so: if you do NOT fulfil the requirements, do not post. OK?

Let's approach the subject with restraint and respect.

Thank you in advance.

No it's a fair enough question that I already answered in the other thread, so I'll give you my own personal answer on its uses here...

Everything really that I require from a computer... D.T.P, Burning CD's & DVD's, Creating Artwork, Making Music, Programming, Letter Writing/ Word Processing, Making MP3's, Creating New Audio Mixes From My Music CD's and Vinyl, Editing Photos to name but a few...

Like I say everything really that I require a computer to do...

@Franko

Do you do your Youtube videos on the Amiga? Those thatcher ones were very good.

I only use my Amiga for 5% of my computer time and 0% is useful/productive nowadays. I would have been using them and flying the flag a lot higher if I had not have been brainwashed into the "you must have a PC" back in the mid-late 90s.

The graphics are always done on the Amiga using ImageFX/ Dpaint & Paint but the actual videos are of course uploaded using the iMac...

Most video editing itself for the majority of my videos isn't done on any computer at all and is done instead on two Panasonic DVD recorders and a Ellion DVD recorder which between them have better video editing functions than any computer...

@Franko

Now I've got 2 threads running for the same topic. I'm locking this one and leaving the other running as it has more posts.

@Franko

I think it would be quite a rare bread that used Amigas, Classic Amigas, as their only computing resource, particularly if they are reading this.
But it can be done, and I take my hat off to those that do.

Rude!

@Franko

Still use my A4000 for mostly everything, but use a mackbook for mobile needs.

The reason I still use Amiga, is it's real time user interface, no other OS even comes
close, the mac UI is slow and stutters , the windows UI is pretty much un useable .

Franko, I admire your convictions. But, when you say:

Quote:
for all their computing needs

All of whose computing needs? Personal needs? Or employment needs? Educational needs?

If you are asking about purely personal use (gaming, making videos etc.), then sure.. Amiga works great.

If you are really saying *all* your computing needs (including business) -- well, that's not really a feasible proposition or comparison, because it's tantamount to asking, how many of you never have to function in any modern business, government, engineering or education context.

It's not a matter of choice. It is simply impossible to function in the modern business world on any computer from 1986.

Maybe this is something you can do, because your use of computers is purely personal projects. But most of us can't do as you do, because most of us use computers for purposes greater than our own personal projects.

Or do you think I'm wrong? Do you see a 1986 Amiga as a perfectly reasonable choice for all computing tasks today?

I'm still an amiga user, but for everyday as my main computer, that kinda stop in 2000 when I finally had to make the jump to PC mainly due to college work requirements, kinda of drifted further and further away from Amiga use ever since, but obliviously still love it as I'm still here right now, if the Amiga could fulfil my computer needs I would live on the amiga platform, but it doesn't quite, Os4 and the x1000 is a good start and has got me back to using amiga more and can fulfil some of my needs, so maybe one day I can move back to being an a full time amiga user in the future, I just glad that there is still some hope in that dream and its the reason I jumped on the x1000 and follow amiga ng activities.

With OS4.2 & software port(s) in the works,returning to using a amiga only is not far away from my needs. I do use my classic amiga most of the time & I only turn on the PC about once a month.

I'm still around (since 1990) but I can't be arsed to use a classic Commodore Amiga.

Unless someone needs haven't evolved since 1992 it's not likely that anyone does. By your requirements anyone with a PPC accelerator or other non-Commodore add-on is disqualified, so how many users are likely to be content with at most 18MB of RAM on a 68040/25?

You're not completely honest with these statements as you also use non-Commodore hardware. For your statements to be true, at the very least you'd have to stop using the Apple computer you are using at this very moment to read my post...

Good point. In fact, @Franko wrote in this thread, that he has to upload videos to youtube using his iMac:

Presumably, because he's found that his REAL Amiga can't do that.

So, Franko, isn't it true, that, like the rest of us, you are slowly moving toward "next generation" computers when you are left with no REAL choice?

There is another thread where someone is claiming he is using IBrowse on his x1000. Should we laught at them and give an advice to use OWB instead? I know Amiga users who are using FinalWriter 97 or TurboCalc on their Macs.

I dont think we can belittle Franko because his Amiga is so old.
