| Here's a poll I think most users would find interesting. It's multiple choice so please select as many as apply to you. The amount of poll fields is limited and I had to group things together, so please feel free to elaborate in a post.
I, alas, since 2004 have not used a classic Amiga with OS 3.x for any activity. Work, mobility, speed, and the growth of smart appliances have all played their part. And I am interested in how the march of progress has affected your computing habits and how you might still use the classic Amiga with OS3.x
I would have liked to add some more activities like Emulation (MacOS, DOS/Windows, etc), and Automation (home, robotics, etc), and Other (kiosks, purpose built systems, etc), but as I said the poll fields are limited. If you drag the Amiga out of the cupboard twice a year when your sister visits so that your nephew can doodle in Deluxe Paint then let us know.

This use is not listed and would not apply to you, since you're not using any NG Amiga solution daily. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I used a Micro (and still do) for email, irc, and browsing. Since information is important to me, and such things as hundreds of links and filenotes were on this AmigaOS side, losing my first Micro board presented a problem.
Ergo, I had to set up the A4000 with a proper file system (long filenames) to access backup DVDs burned on the Micro. So, one use for me is as a backup system of sorts.
Another non listed use is checking original OS3.x applications on the A4000, in order to help in my mode promotion efforts on the Micro, which often apply to SAM and X1000, but sometimes with variations.
To do much else that I either want, or need to do on a classic would either be impossible, or take too much investment vs other options.
In the A/V world we used to say "give me the talented person with VHS and he'll produce better product than the novice with the best gear available", which I still believe is true. So, this only applies to my current use and not what I believe is true for anyone else. Talent trumps tech.

Graphics, because I make the gif animations frames with Personal Paint, although under WinUAE, because my old MegaAmiga500 is very slow for this work. Last edited by Templario on 10-May-2013 at 01:57 PM.

None of the above.
The only one of my classic, non-PPC Amigas that is ever turned on nowadays is my A1200/060 with SilverSurfer serial port, and the only thing it is used for is running Term to catch the serial output from one of my NG, OS 4.x machines. I have Miami Dx on it so I can connect to it over my LAN (like the rest of my machines) and use AmigaNetFS to get the capture files back into NG-land.
I have even made it auto-start Term on bootup, so the only thing I need to do when I want to capture serial output is turn on the machine and the monitor.
Best regards,
Niels

| All of the above apply in my case. Especially development for EasyNet, EasyADF, EasyGS and soon EasyDownload..
I use my Classic Amiga more than my NG Amiga at the moment, probably due to work projects. Last edited by amigakit on 10-May-2013 at 11:03 PM.

| i have utilized amigas for my video installations until even mid 00. which caused that i gathered quite a few of them. even now i plan to do so at least once more, still it gets pushed back as i lost almost perfectly working hollywood scripts and need to upgrade hollywood anyway to continue. just cant find the original cds at the moment and other work priorities leave me with using the machines for testing aros most of the time. |
