| Is it me or does copying a file by dragging and dropping it from one drawer to another cause some executables or the dependency files to not work?
If I have say a gfx demo with an executable and a bunch of files, I run it fine from a testing location (i.e. RAM disk or a CF in my PCMCIA slot), but when trying it on the place where I want to keep it after dragging the contents to my HDD it brings up errors (not always the same as far as I remember like it can't run or find a file).
Using a file manager such as Dopus or using the shell doesn't cause this problem. I am sure it's been mentioned before but I can't recall why there is a problem dragging and dropping files. I have had many A1200's with Ks/WB 3.1 and they all seemed to demonstrate this issue on certain programs. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

I've had no problem like this myself and usually find the Workbench copy reliable as long as there are no duplicate objects it complains about.
I notice DirOpus seems to use a low buffer size when doing a copy and I think Copy does as well. What if you try Copy with a larger buffer or one the size of files?
What controller is it on and what are your MaxTransfer settings? Etc. |

The only problem I have seen is that occasionally the .info file for the drawer isn't copied across although the contents are (this was under UAE though - as I don't recall ever having that issue on my real Amigas). However, I also admit that I rarely drag and drop things like that, preferring to use the CLI to move files around or a tool like DOpus.
If other files are being missed in the copy (most notably .info files) then this would explain the random issues you are facing. The simple solution would to therefore not drag and drop the drawer, but use either a WB Replacement (DOpus Magellan) or file lister (DiskMaster/RO/Doups etc) Last edited by _Steve_ on 23-Feb-2013 at 02:34 PM.

are you sure to copy all files? IIRC WB 3.1 does not have a "show all files" menu, so maybe you are missing to copy some hidden files to the destination dir? |

You mean 1.3. In my 3.1 I have Window-Show-All files menu item. |

you are right, I remember now.. 3.1 does not have keyboard shortcuts for that specific option, so in my mind I deleted the whole menu entry! :-O |

| Thanks all. I am using a CF to IDE adaptor and in the past have used a similar setup or a Disk-on-Module arrangement. I prefer not using noisy mechanical drives :)
I will take a look at the max transfer rate. I am copying all files so this is definitely a technical thing. _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

| OK the MaxTransfer rate was something bizarre (didn't jot it down but it had a huge bunch of 0's or 1's in it) reading the answer here and the information below I have changed the value to 0x1fe00 and on a single copy test it seems fine. I haven't benchmarked but the HDD doesn't seem any slower to me (using program loading and a warm boot as a gauge).
Info More info Information :)
