| I know I am posting too many topics, but I have many questions right now, so here is another one:
Is there any free word processor I could get with ttf support and "modern" abilities (handle formatting, pdf export, etc, etc)? I know FinalWriter 97 and WordsWorth, but I think those are copyrighted and difficult to find.
Thank you in advance, Linuxlalala Last edited by linuxlalala on 01-May-2013 at 04:47 PM.

No, nothing. No "classic" Amiga word processor has enough features and useable compatibility with outside word. There is AbiWord (OS4) or MS Office 97 (DosBox on AROS), but that will not help you in this regard. Last edited by pavlor on 01-May-2013 at 04:48 PM.

I do not need compatibility with the outside world, just something that "works". I have heard there is a commercial word processor for linux/windows/mac/amiga, but I do not remember the name.
BTW, if there is no good classic amiga word processor, how was http://www.totalamiga.org/ being made? They claimed they produced it on amigas, and in issue 18 (http://www.totalamiga.org/issue18.html) they introduced some amiga word processors (all of them being commercial). |

AmigaWriter 2.2 from Amigakit.co.uk
This is your best bet but it isn't free at £17.35. It imports .doc files and was of great use when writing my dissertation a decade ago
Abiword for OS4.x
I've seen this working ok but it is slow on a Sam 440EP. _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |

You're probably referring to Papyrus Office. It was once released for MorphOS, but the MorphOS port never exceeded kind of alpha stadium. Originally a nice program though.
Amiga Writer has a few nice features (a bit DTP like), but is rather limited. Back in the day I used it productively though, albeit it often crashed on the A1200. On MorphOS it seems to run rock stable.
All in all I confess to use Amiga/MorphOS only very little for documents, but mainly use open office and/or InDesign on OS X for that purpose.

FinalWriter 97 and Wordworth 7 are probably the most feature-ful Amiga word processors, they are not hard to find though, pretty much any Amiga download site, torrent site or FTP will offer you a copy of either.
EAB's file server has them both for example.
I don't think the publishers are too bothered either, I even contacted Digita around 2008 asking for a key for Wordworth 7 and they sent me an email detailing how to generate one and pass it on to other Amiga users with their blessing.
If you need any more info, just ask.
They cannot export as PDF though, closest you'll get to "real world" compatibility is RTF import/export.

No problem with pdf :). What is the eab file server? Isn't is illegal to download copyrighted software? Last edited by linuxlalala on 02-May-2013 at 04:26 AM.

If you can wait untill the weekend, I plan to release v. 0.90 of Cinnamon Writer. More feature rich and more stable than previous versions, with docx support and fully native |

Cinnamon Writer is still alive?! I will be one of the first to download :). BTW, could you do amiga users a favour and release a pre-installed whd or adf, or make the Cinnamon Writer file in the lha archive executable? |

There always google docs, but I admit it is a little slow and can be a bit funny at times on owb. I do wish we had a slight better brower.
There also PDF converter online that can covert a lot of formats to a PDF, http://www.freepdfconvert.com/conversion-types So you could make your page layout in a image program, or html coding, etc save and covert that to a PDF if you really need that file type, where there a will, there a way. Google Docs... Forget it. I want something native, and Cinnamon and Final Writer seem to be the best choiches (even though I will be getting Cinnamon, as it is free :) )
Anyway, any other suggestions? |
