1) What is RTC?
2) utility.library is listed as:
"used by AROS"
V41.9 - 02-02-97
this might be helpful in reading as well

I checked an archived version of my install for 2.1 and I don't have it.
Is it possible it was ditched?
seems like issues here

| utility.library is a Kickstart component. There's no version for 1.3 unless somebody wrote a 3rd party one.

actually Chris it's from the TurboTek clock cartridge that you gave me that plugs into the back of the A1000 floppy connector (or in my case piggybanked onto my DF1).
I searched the disk and it has no such library so I assumed it probably came in a newer version of OS1.3, my A1000 shows "kickstart 34.5. Workbench 34.34"
@ number 6
this RTC cartridge I'm sure was manufactured waaaaay before AROS existed Last edited by klx300r on 01-Jun-2013 at 10:35 PM.

I'm not sure you understood what Chris was saying or the link I gave?
A library call can be for a library within another library, which is the example cited in Piru's reply.

sorry 6 I just noticed the link now & although don't understand it fully i see that finding such a 'library' file will not be that simple

I did say at the time that I thought it required OS2.04.
Some enterprising person might be able to disassemble the code and either patch it to not require utility.library or write a OS1.3 replacement.
There can't be that much to it - it only needs to request the time and (possibly) modify it to be in "number of seconds since 1978" before setting the system time.
You'll probably have more luck asking on amiga.org for that sort of thing.
Alternatively, can the AROS utility.library be built for OS1.3 and not require any other post-1.3 libraries?

We had a gadtools13.library for OS3.1 3 but I'm not aware of a utility13 version.
So is this RTC not made for the A1000?
BTW, A1000, Kickstart on disk? You need a newer Kickstart dude! Last edited by Hypex on 03-Jun-2013 at 01:49 PM.

don't think it needs OS2 as it doesn't specifally say so on the instruction sheet (mind you it doesn't say the contrary either). I've got PPC utlitly.library in my X1000 so it's been around for quite some time it seems
@ Hypex
LOVE having kickstart in my DF0: full time while hearing the muted click from DF1 also love the sound my external scsi HD makes everytime it's accessed.

Given that this seem to a be clock from the A1000-era (aka long before Kick2.0) I would guess that it needs an utility.library completly unrelated to the one found in Kick2.0 or later.
Trying to run that clocktool on anything with Kick2.0 or better might end in interesting results (most likely just a crash). Last edited by Kronos on 02-Jun-2013 at 04:51 PM.

It definitely 100% works on OS2.05, so it's the "real" utility.library it's looking for.
If you have evidence that these were available long before Kickstart 2 was released, then maybe there is an older version of the software kicking around?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's using Amiga2Date() to display the date/time it has just set the clock to. A dummy utility.library which returns nonsense for that one function is probably all that is needed.

Firstly you need somebody who knows how to create .libraries for KS1.3 (ie. not me). Then you ask them nicely to create a dummy library with the same function table as utility.library v37 (and a version number to match). The Amiga2Date function will need to look something like this:
VOID Amiga2Date(ULONG seconds, struct ClockData *result) { /* actually I've just realised we don't need to do anything here, as the structure is allocated by the calling program, so we just return and the caller can deal with whatever garbage was in their structure before we got hold of it */ }
Copy utility.library into LIBS: and see if it works!
Might be worth the functions dumping some debug out so you can see which functions are being called, if it doesn't work with pure dummies.

That page says something about generic 32-bit math functions. Will that work under 1.3? Also, is it possible to extract a single library from a Kickstart 2.0x ROM and drop it under C:LIBS? |

This is getting ridiculous. Proposing software hacks and dummy libraries. The software would have normally worked without that sort of thing 20 years ago What we need to know is what hardware does it support? And what OS version? And is there a disk image downloadable for this RTC device? Finally culminating in the answer for does it work on a standard A1000? |
