Mplayer should be able to playback M4As, I've tried a few here works fine - well I don't have audio drivers, but I see mplayer outputing time elapsed so I assume there is no problem. Otherwise I wait Varthall's next update with glee.
The only thing I can suggest or rather ask - how old are the music files? Are they M4Ps you are trying to play? If the ones you are trying where purchased before January-March 2009 from the iTunes store they will more than likely contain DRM. _________________

As my system fits all the requirements, I decided to give it a go. Alright, first I had to find out about renaming "Mount_JackTunes" to "Mount JackTunes" but maybe I should have read all the posts first The next message was, that I would not have AISS 4.11 installed which was not true. I then found out, the the original uploaded package of AISS 4.11 didn't set the new version ENV variable properly, so on my system it still read 4.10. But apparently this has been corrected by Mason as the current package does set the version correctly. So I simply installed that one again.
Now, Jack does finally start up, but does say to insert DH1: at the beginning. As I numbered my drives HD0, HD1, etc. there's not DH1. Maybe SYS: would be a safer default. Cancelling the message worked so I could go on.
Then, accessing the network shares, prompted me for SMBFS0:. So I manually tried out to execute the script "Mount JackTunes", but this also prompted me for SMBFS0:. Apparently, the line 'if not exists "SMBFS0:"' would not work (here), so I just executed the next line manually to mount SMBFS0: which worked fine.
So I navigated to an MP3 and tried out the "Get Info" button but then got the following message: Cannot read beyond end of file! File: filesystem.hws (current line: 1592 - in function: ReadLine)
The jack Output window showed: Traceback (most recent call last): File "python:scripts/mid3v2", line 20, in import mutagen, mutagen.id3 ImportError: No module named mutagen Traceback (most recent call last): File "python:scripts/jack_getmpeginfo.py", line 2, in from mutagen import File ImportError: No module named mutagen
So, hope this information will help you to continue... |

Ok, I can't count... whatever the latest public update N is I am using N-1.
The point was my python install is older (2.5.1) and doesn't have the same setup as the current release (no scripts dir). So who knows what else is missing or different, libs, etc.
The Jack: assignment is fine, but something tries to use APPDIR: explicitly at some point, and on my old OS it asked for the assign instead of finding it like the current OS does.
If I get to installing AISS and SAMBA on the new OS partition I will try again there. |

Thanks guys for the reports so far, working my way through the list.
In the meantime, I show a screenshot showing the new front-end for Jack.

PS. I am awaiting to hear confirmation from another developer in regard to option two, but I don't envisage there being any problem. For those of you who visit osdepot often enough will know what the content of this particular aspect of Jack will reveal. _________________

Just curious, are you somehow using Samba to mount a Windows share? I've never used Samba, but I used to use SambaFS to mount a Windows share... unfortunately this stopped working with Windows Vista, due to changes in how Windows does file sharing. I wonder if this might also apply to the way you want to use Samba?

Because at the time almost no-one else was replying to djrikki, so I thought a "no" post (which explained why) was better than silence (that only left him puzzled). I think more people should explain why they are not trying iTunes with Jack, then maybe djrikki can work-out some way to improve the situation.Last edited by ChrisH on 13-Jun-2011 at 11:47 AM.

Hi chris, and thanks.
No MS here mate not a fan at all, Apple is always one step ahead of them, therefore I use a Mac. I installed both Samba as per the guide and I use SMBFS to mount the share - I presume one doesn't work without the other.
This only makes Mac folders visible from the Amiga though, I have no idea how to share an Amiga folder/drawer so its visible from the Mac. _________________

SMBFS is entirely stand-alone, and does not need Samba at all.

But you are asking Windows users with iTunes to help out... which won't work if they have Vista or 7 (assuming Jack is using SMBFS to access iTunes files)._________________

My Amiga is currently packed 'cause i'm moving so i cannot test Jack, but... may i suggest to NOT use red coloured fonts to show "normal" messages and titles? It's against every basic GUI usability rule (I know OS4 has this by default in some places like panels' titles, and it's ugly, i changed it to blue the day i installed OS4)

Nice project but why should i use Jack if i can play those files via mplayer and TuneNet?
Sure i can't see the cover art but if i think of my iTunes media folder (which is 53 GB big) i think that the time i will spent on waiting for Jack, crawling through my MP3 and MP4 files for cover art, will be much to long (i'm not able to test it as i am a OS4.0 only user atm)
Or do you access the iTunes database directly?
IMHO you should better aim to support iTunes media servers so that users can access the iTunes media on theyrSAN/Mac/PC from OS4 without any samba shares. _________________ Ei gude wie! Hi! I would love to help! But I'm very busy in these days, and I need to setup Samba with the idiot guide but I fear to be too idiot to be successful! I've tried years ago without luck but with a winsucks machine, with mac OS X network configs are easy and fun. Hyperion should integrate Samba and and easy wizard. _________________ ikir |

The problem I have is that although I can page down the list it only plays the intro from the songs on the first page.
