No, just crosschecked this. I have a folder with 74 mails, mark 10 of them and either click the "Delete" button or press the DEL key. After confirming that I really want to delete 10 mails the folder consists of 64 mails and the 10 deleted mails appear in the Trash folder.

And before you ask if this is something new: no, this has always been this way, at least way back to YAM 2.4p1. If you want to delete the mails immediately and for ever then either press SHIFT+DEL or enable the immediate deletion (Config -> Mixed -> Remove deleted mail).

It seems that not just 'delete' but 'move' only moves one mail at atime. ie if you multiselect a bunch of mails then drag them to a new folder only one mail is moved the others reman where they are still selected.

Take a look at the drag image. Are you sure you are really dragging all mails? Or is it just a single one?

Yes, something like this should work:

1. Iterate over all folders
2. Iterate over all mails
3. setmail 'index'
4. mailstatus 'R'

Not here, it asks the question do you want to delete 10 mails but only deletes 1

No, I know that behaviour. And again only one mail is deleted.

Definelty dragging all items, tried again it said 'dragging 3 items' only the first was moved.

I'll investigate that when I have time, iterating over all mails could take a while though! Can you just fetch a list of "new" mail?

I'll have to check again with AmigaOS4 tonight when I am back home. Using the AmigaOS3 build on WinUAE does the job perfectly here. And I am 100% sure that basic stuff like Drag'n'Drop and deleting mails has not been touched since ages.

I'm seeing a pattern here.

Filters are only applied to 1 mail i any batch fetched
Filters on demand with a number of mails selected are only applied to the first mail.
Move a list of mails only moves the first mail.
Delete a list of mails only deletes or 'moves to trash' the first mail.

Something is up with dealing with lists of mails.

This is on a latest beta system. I'll retry against update6 later, but now I've got to write some important emails

No, but you can optimize the folder loop a bit by using FOLDERINFO to check whether there are any new mails at all in a folder.

Rebooted into update6 and no problem with deleteing, moving multiple mails etc, booted back into latest beta and suddenly no problem there either!

That's distinctly odd, as I had installed 2.8 last night and hard rebooted since install.

Some settings glitch somewhere? I'll keep my eye on it and report back if it reoccurs.

This might be related to some old bugs in BetterString.mcc which caused trashed memory whenever one used the undo function and typed some new content after that. You never know what funny side effects trashed memory might cause to happen. A fixed version can be found here.

hmm, i am using yam daily and its my only way of retriving and sending mails, and i haven't seen or found any these things you mention but there has been "broken" beta updates of os4 on the betaml which can trigger stuff.
I have had many issues with copy and paste and such things lately but it solved itself after a while (an update to yam or a mcc most likely).

YAM bug or MUI bug?

Just to let you know, I just found the cause for this bug. MUI's text engine could leave the JAM2 drawmode used for the text marking active even if it was explicitly disabled. Thus the complete text was redrawn with the wrong drawmode and hence falsely indicated a still active text mark. The next MUI update will fix this.

Been gone awhile and just getting caught up, so forgive me if I'm drawing the wrong conclusion here. I understood this to mean we? should install:

https://yam.ch/attachment/ticket/377/bstring_os4.lha

If so, with unarc I'm getting the message:
Quote:
error while unpacking [file] filetype is unknown

And the attempt from shell with lha e:
Quote:
Extracting from archive 'bstring_os4.lha':
WARNING: Skipping corrupt/extraneous data
No files extracted.

Bah. Nevermind. Got it. IBrowse showed that as a link to the file so I downloaded it. Obviously it was a link to a page -with- the file. Heh.

I missed this thread the first time around but read the entire thing after you revived it. When I tested the copy labels issue, I noticed something strange. If I copy the "Apply to sent mail" on the Options Tab of the Filters configuration, the copied text is different when I paste it. Instead of "Apply to sent mail" the pasted text is "Apply to sent umUail". It a minor issue but strange nonetheless.

Not strange at all, nor a bug, but 100% intentional. You get an exact copy of what you selected for copy, including the stuff for the MUI text engine to make a text section underlined. The label consists of this text:

Apply to sent \033um\033Uail

with \033u and \033U being the typical sequence to activate and deactivate underlined text. Pasting this text will just omit the ESC character as it is not printable.

Do you have remote filters active? If yes, then this is the cause. Remote filters can only work with the preselection being enabled automatically, because they rely on data which is only available while receiving the message details.

@broadblues

I found YAM wiped my signature from emails. Turned out there was a new signature or user system and it needed to be imported. It would have been nice if YAM actually set it up. Instead of leaving me to figure out why the signature wasn't being inserted even thought it was right in front of me!

I have also setup filters which somehow still worked when I upgraded. On a closer look I don't use DOS pattern matching.

I also wanted to setup a remote filter to leave certain addresses on the server but found it won't work as YAM doesn't do it this way. Or the way I wanted. Somehow YAM is able to filter out messages of a certain size but not with address. Or IIRC it will work if you only have new emails and not heaps of old ones left on the server.

I don't think this is the case as all. The fact here is something was working in one YAM and stops working in another. Whilst I welcome new features, if YAM is going to forcefully change user settings, then program YAM to warn about it. Otherwise YAM should convert the old config file into the new format. This was done in the past so I don't know why YAM is not importing the setings as it should.

It's good at last that a mail can be completely recovered after a reboot. But I found the new Outgoing system has messed up emails somewhat. I had some kept in Drafts on hold and somehow the new YAM managed to send them off. Some were old drafts I hadn't cleared up yet. But when quiting YAM asked me if I wanted to send Outgoing mail. I told it to and the Drafts disappered onto the internet! Why were they taken from Drafts and put into Outgoing!?

I then got a load of responses about incomplete and old mails that shouldn't have been placed in the Outgoing folder! I saved them in the Draft folder so what is YAM doing moving my emails around? I've also had emails disappear in the new system. After ages looking for deleted files it turned out YAM had saved it as a malformed email without a From address and wasn't displaying it.

While I'm all for progress incomplete progress is what I dislike including YAM showing strange behaviour as per above.

I find this is simply not the case. When the choice is between a crash bringing down the system or upgrading then the user pretty much has to upgrade.
