I finally got a PSX game: "Forsaken"! The only one which I really enjoyed on PSX

The good news is, that it seems to work with FPSE and also seem to be fast enough! on SAM440ep (Cannot say anything about sound as i didn't have speakers turned on )!
Great!

Now my questions:

1) FPSE flickers a little bit by showing wrong colours every second or so. Is there a way to adjust this?
2) FPSE runs in window mode. Is there a way to change to fullscreen mode?
3) I read that FPSE can handle USB-Joypads? How can i use a joypad? I only can find emulation-plugins for keyboard and mouse.

thanks,
nexus

@nexus

you first have to plug your usb pad, then configure it with amigainput and then launch fpse and setup the joy plugin to usb controller.

other than that

I did that The only plugin which is configurable is joy0key.dll, right? And this does only react on keyboard input not from my joypad. My joypad works with AmigaInput and for example with the game Payback.

Good idea! But in my archive, there's no manual (or i am blind), only a Readme-file (without answers to my questions).

greetings,
nexus

@nexus

Go get a later fpse release, it should have the AmigaGuide file and better plugins, too.

FPSE needs this specific BIN file. Where I can get it?

@Thematic

I downloaded it from os4depot.net. I'd have expected that this is the latest version
Where can I get the latest version?

@phantom

There's also an emulator for bin files in fpse but i downloaded them from web. Just google for "psx bios" or something like that and you get it. As the link was in google's top 10 result list , i've the hope that this is a legal downlaod

@nexus

Get the latest version from www.amidog.com. The os4depot version is really old, buggy and dead slow compared to the latest one. Not to mention lacking lots of features, like BIOS emulation (no need to go hunting for a BIOS dump), Warp3D and AmigaInput support...

Note to self: Upload most recent version to os4depot ASAP.

Who cares?

I care. And I will tell you why...

Because of the piracy associated with emulators, some sites are hunted even if they provide only legal stuff. FPSE and many other emulators utilize freeware replacement of the original copyrighted license firmware. If there is no need for the original ROM, better use the freeware replacements, which sometimes have some bug fixes over the original. While there is no hope the original firmware ROMs will be updated by the original manufacturer, when using the freeware replacements, you can report bugs, send feedback, or notes and the current maintainers who may update them. I don't think SONY is going to update the PSX firmware, but the chances their opensource replacements are going to be updated is much bigger. I am for emulator usage with free stuff and legally purchased games.

Hehe, probably not, but they are offering lots of old PS1 games for sale (downloads) to be played through emulation on PSP and PS3...

There are a few minor things on my todo-list I'd like to take care of, but having an eight week old (young?) boy in the house does limit my time for coding somewhat

@AmiDog

Is there a new release of FPSE planned anytime soon?

I had trouble using Memory cards with FPSE. Does memory card support works at all, or I have to use only snapshots to save my progress? I have tried with Gran Tourismo mostly to save my cars, but it did not work.

P.S.
I have acquired some freeware development material for Playstation and may even try to compile something for the PSX on the AmigaOne, and then test it under FPSE. I have heard that some of the old PSX cracktros were coded on Amiga (Classic).

Memory cards should work, atleast it works with just about all games I've tried. Are you using BIOS emulation or a real BIOS dump? Is that the PAL version of Gran Turismo?

I have tried with the PAL version of Gran Turismo and also Crash Bandicoot, but had not luck with memory cards save. I am using real ROM dump of the first PSX, and also BIOS emulation with no luck.
