Hi, me again with a problem

I messed up my working installed Quake II by accidently selecting hardware render and couldn't get it working again. I deleted the game drawer and done a fresh install which all went okay. When I tried to run the game I could hear it but no screen or graphics, I seem to remember it went to software render by default but I have no graphics whatsoever!

I have a SAM460 fitted with a Radeon HD 4650 GFX card, when I installed my previous version I was using the in-built GFX card.

I cannot find any config files for me to manually edit to make it run okay, any ideas?

I don't have this installed but wasn't there a directory named baseq2 ... and there a file like config.cfg? Perhaps renaming the config file will cause the program to pick a screenmode that makes sense.

That's what I seem to remember, but in baseq2 there is no config file, so was wondering if Quake 2 generates it first time you run it or save settings!

There is no config file so expected it to open on a low res screen in software render mode to be able to change and make setting from, but nothing, just get sound only!

@sicky

Maybe you should start Quake 2 from command line, with -safe swicth? Atleast it would do trick with Quake 1

Maybe someone can send me their config file to be able to start the game in software render mode, I don't seem to have a config file?

@sicky

Quake saves its config in an ".ini" file - in the original Quake this was hidden in the ID3 folder. It has been too long since I played Q2, so I am not sure if they still kept the ini file in the same location, or if they hid it away in one of the pak files (which were essentially renamed ZIP files).

Had a quick look, and the settings are in the Quake2/baseq2 folder and you should have a config.cfg in there. In that somewhere is set vid_ref "gl", which you need to set to say "soft" instead of "gl".

That file does not exist in my Quake2/baseq folder, I have a game.so, maps.lst, pak0.pak, pak1.pak, pak2.pak and session.cfg

Maybe I could create that file with a text editor if you show me whats in yours?
