I was going to post: What to do to get max out of MUIOWB?
But desided to read the documentation first.

So the real question:
How people use browsers on AOS4?
Only one browser at a time or several separate web browsers?

For example I usually run two. When MUIOWB slows down because heavy web site, I can switch to IBrowse to continue with full speed. (TW I used only when everything else failed,, but then I broke it's installation....)

To me it seems that Netsurf is not yet as good as IBrowse (and RAOWB does not evolve any more).


And then: What seems like the most stable of the browsers?

To me it seems that IB crashes pretty regularly on AOS4 ... any fixes to that?

I use tabs when using MUI-OWB without any problem. Although I mainly visit Amiga sites (not registered in crap social sites like myspace, facebook etc).

Suprisingly enough I don't have such problems with iBrowse under AmigaOS 4.1. I used to browse with iBrowse since MUI-OWB arrived, after that I deleted it.

I remember iBrowse was buggy especially if the JavaScript was enabled, so I always had this disabled.

MUIOWB usually, and I need to close the browser from time to time, so never >10 tabs. But the behaviour is better now that I don't use a swap partition: images stop loading but no problem quitting and freeing that RAM.

Reaction OWB for Wikipedia and bank transactions.

I don't know which browser will be first able to do asynchronous operations while retaining a semblance of responsiveness, but such a wonder would be my first choice.

Netsurf is very good and very functional even under 68k (but you need a very speedy machine and lots of RAM).

SW downloading, bookmarks handling and browsing in general has not been so smooth ast with IB. For example if I type some address incorrectly the UI locks up for a while etc.
But I think I have been one or two versions behind the latest, so I will be re trying it, as I will need asynchronous access to web (via two separate browsers).

Well, i gave the CURL sources to have asynchronous DNS resolution. I wonder why it's so difficult to make it work on OS4.

I use only MUIOWB no need pf anyother...
Its quite fast and the sites that locks it was quite rare in my use so no problems for that...
The real problem wa only the old version we have on OS4 at this time that have some bugs like the one with Google in image mode...

But its usable and nice for everything that dont uses Flash or similar not supported things...

I use MUIOWB 99% of the time, usually with 5 or 6 tabs with different sites, doesn't seem to slow down but sometimes it ends up using 100% CPU that looks like coming from adverts on AW ironically!

MUIOWB - I've got at least two sites that I find work much better if I set it to spoof a better known browser. I've had success with "Firefox 2.0 (Windows XP)"

I solve that issue adding some empty tabs...2 or 3 and the cpu will return to normal values...
left the tabs open and the problem want rehappen, butif you close the tabs it will rehappen...

The lock up is due to synchronous DNS requests, as Fab says. It will be generally a bit slower than iBrowse due to the overhead of CSS rendering. There are various options you can change to change the rendering speed though - there's a section in the accompanying AmigaGuide entitled "optimising for speed". I've made further improvements in this area for 3.0 but you won't be able to get hold of that yet.

Should be preliminary (basic) Javascript support in v3.0. If I can get newer Spidermonkey to work properly.

IIRC your code had the same problem as Curl's built-in pthreads - so it looks like a bsdsocket.library bug with running DNS queries asynchronously.

I use my browser with a spoon :p

I use only MUIOWB. I do have most browsers installed and Timberwolf i try out every new version. I will probably remove both Ibrowse and Aweb and the reaction OWB later. I think MuiOWB (main) and Timberwolf will be enough for me.

On my AmigaOne XE, I use mainly TimberWolf RC-2 (sometimes I get back to MUI-OWB but I'm now used to use TW).

On my Sam440, I use mainly NetSurf for its speed (it reminds me of IBrowse but with CSS support. I hope the next version comes soon).

Until I given up with OS4 I had installed all the compatible browsers. The classic versions (AWeb, IBrowse) were absolutely unusable given the absence of CSS, for me. RAOWB always looked to me as a less basic than a mobile's phone browser. It worked, it was the pioneer OS4, imho but nevertheless it was ultra basic. Even the add-on bookmarks looked like a "hack" and not part of the actual browser. TW until RC1 was unuable for me given the low speed. It loaded slow, it rendered slow, the cursor on fora replies was slow (like I was typing with lag). I believe that is should still be slow for me. Finally MUIOWB came up. Much better than any other AOS4.x browser and to me it looked like IB on steroids. However I felt it was incomplete when I watched some videos of MOS on yt... and I wasn't wrong ;)
