Hi guys, i need help improving Amiga News.it looks on amiga browsers. The biggest issue is with font.

We are using @fontface which loads web font (a paid one sigh) directly in the browser so you don't need to have on your computer. Modern browser and especially webkit support it but OWB on amiga still show a generic font.

you can check here: www.amiganews.it

It should looks like this:

Any ideas? It is standard and it works on most browsers on other platforms.

Seems to display correctly on OWB 1.19 and OWB 1.20 here (MorphOS).

NB - I tested both, since OWB (>=1.20) has some differences in font handling from previous versions (no more lengthy font caching at first run).

OWB 1.19
OWB 1.20

EDIT: Could you post a screenshot of the incorrect rendering you are getting your OWB version?

Safari has only supported downloadable web fonts since 3.1 (2010) so I would guess the ancient version of webkit which reaction OWB is based upon doesn't support this feature.

@Boot_WB

Even this old webkit version had support for font faces, but the os4 font backend probably doesn't support it.

Yet another reason to use IBrowse so you don't have to waste bandwidth downloading the fonts used as well as the normal html and graphics... More bloat, more bandwidth... I feel really sorry for the people still having to use dialup (yes there are some), slow broadband due to location (BillE for example) and those that can't afford unlimited packages to deal with this crap.

@Severin

For a good IBrowse simulation, one can just disable css (and even javascript) and there.

@Severin

Cache works pretty well and like Fab said, you can disable things that use up much bandwith like images for example. Another option is to use the mobile-versions of websites which are less heavy.

But yes, some websites are really bloated.

Or NetSurf, which doesn't support @fontface yet.
