Wondeirng why the new Netsurf is so slow?

Example.... on my Amiga OS 4.1u6 system it takes about 30 seconds to load the cnn.com link found on the standard homepage that came pre-installed with Netsurf.

I then use the older Netsurf 2.8 found on my AmiCygnix and that same page took maybe 5 seconds.

I don't remember the older Netsurf 2.9 being so slow on my Amiga OS 4.1u6 system so maybe this is just a version 3.0 issue???

Just not usable being so slow.

@amigasociety

I update it with the last bin and is really fast.. Soon will be the best browser for Amiga os 4.
For load Facebook on my Sam need just 4 seconds and 1 second for amigaworld and 0,5 seconds for load os4dot.

@amigasociety

As you have an X1000, maybe that like me you play with a dual-gfx setup ?

With a dual GFX card, at least on my X1000, NetSurf lags a lot, Chris is informed.

Is it your case, too ?
If yes, try to remove one of your GFX card.

Because the former version did not use javascript and this version does.

Cnn.com is one of the heaviest javascript sites. In addition they may still use site catalyst as well. Dunno.

You mean that damn "site catalyst" code? It's javascript lunacy.

You can check if it's JS by disabling it in the Browser menu.

@tlosm It should be possible to view the Flash in Gnash by uncommenting the Flash line in Resources/mime types or adding it to mimetypes.user. This enables context menu option "open in external application"

and set the image quality lower

It works fine here (on a SAM 460) but GMail doesn't work at all. It loads for about 5 seconds when I try to log in but then it just sticks. Nothing more happens.

Ah, that. I thought Chris has updated the public json version. What you're referring to are the jsoff test builds.

@amigasociety

My problem with it is that if you go to Facebook you only get a practically empty page...

Did you right-click and select "open in external application"?
Do you have Gnash installed?
Have you run it at least once so the APPDIR: path exists?

It doesn't exist until created. Put it in your user dir (Users/default normally)

Turning off Javascipt helped but still slower that 2.8 via AmiCygnix.

CNN takes a good 14 seconds to come up via version 3 and only 6 on Cygnix.

With Javascipt off it takes about 10 seconds or so. Better but still slow.

Same goes for other sites including Slashdot. I would say version 3 takes twice the time as 2.8 does elsehwere.
