MUI-OWB is buggy, and does not support flash, you need to use js script to download videos.

The startup is sightly slow but it does have good features like saved logins and saved tabs support plus more "normal" bookmarking. It works most of the time but some sites can trip it up and it can kill the CPU time for no apparent reason. Lots of times this week while I was logging a bug report it has for some reason hogged the CPU and in the worst case I go back to Workbench to check something and get a mouse freeze.

Reaction-OWB stable, but lacks so many things.

It can also be unstable. Ir's buggy, the windows can't be resized, and it crashes, It also won't be fixed AFAIK so more annoying!

You should use the CPU docky in AmiDock, its probably CPU related, not the USB stack, or maybe your using a optical mouse on reflecting surface.

Yeah, it's not the best. However, it still shows some stubborn signs of life. Everything that should spin up does spin up and it makes a single beep sound. That's as far as it gets, though.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything with which to capture the serial output reliably. It seems that my A1200 detects some data, but doesn't like the 115200 baud rate. And my PC doesn't have a serial port. Or at least not one that you can plug a DB9 cable into, just the header for one on the motherboard (instead, it's bristling with USB2 ports, a couple of RJ45, IEEE1394, eSATA etc).

The timing couldn't be better, I have bugs to fix in some recent driver updates :-/

There are cables and adapters available. You should be able to find one to plug into the USB of your PC.

Yes, just like that. I have a USB->PS/2 mouse but when I pull it out and plug it onto USB suddenly the mouse comes back. At the same time my PS/2 keyboard goes dead as well and even a USB mouser can bring that back as well! Strange.

But the other night all these repeated characters appeared in my shell and would not stop so had to cold reboot. Perhaps my keyboard is dying. All my PS/2 devices tend to die after a while or malfunction when OS4 is involved.

I bought a dirt cheap USB-serial cable from ebay several use ago and have successfully used it for serial output from my A1 as well as updating my Minimig's firmware and data logging/diagnostics on my car.

Yup, USB to serial adapters are also useful to capture debug output.

The battery is a CR2032, available almost anywhere. I last got a pair of duracell ones from ASDA for a few quid.

Finally scored a pair from Morrisons for four quid.

It appears that the battery was indeed the problem, or at least part of it.

I now get a UBoot error screen telling me the SCSI controller is not found, before it jumps into UBoot preferences.

Anyone familiar with this problem?

My micro ALWAYS complains that it cannot find a SCSI controller.. Probably because it has IDE drives.

Certainly nothing to worry about. :)

Sounds like you are on your way to running again, once you get UBOOT settings figured out.

That's encouraging to hear but I'm somewhat baffled at the moment.

As lylehaze, my A1XE always shows that SCSI error first thing aswell, it's normal.

There's some good info here:

Finally managed to find my original OS4 install CD which does boot, although I'm not sure whether to proceed with a complete new install or try to recover what I had.

Wahey! Back in the game and posting this from my A1 via iBrowse!

One thing that hd me stumped for a moment was that I was trying to use my TV as my display. UBoot copes OK with it but OS4 doesn't. OTOH, MorphOS worked fine on my TV. I have a Radeon something or other (can't remember exactly) in my A1 and a Voodoo in my Peg.

Before I go opening up the cases again to swap them around, does anyone know if that is likely to be the problem?

Cheers,
Robert.

Nice one. Alas my machine is still in limbo land but I haven't exactly divested any extra time into figuring out what it's current malaise is.

I wonder if there is some highlander style prize for the last A1 standing

@Karlos

you must get an seial to usb adapter, if you cant hook the a1k to your a1200 reliably. however its strange, you have a ppc accelerated machine. i remember, i would try under 68k system through. i am capturing serial the other way, a4k > usb-pc testing aros68k at the exact baudrate you need an everything works perfectly, no problem.

edit: remember an amiga needs a null modem serial cable to connect to pc, am not sure what a1 needs, likely a straight one like a pc>pc. connecting a1 to amiga may require a null modem again. someone else needs to confirm that. be careful not to fry anything;)
