What if someone create dual ported RAM connection boards between Classic Amiga and PCI based PowerPC machine/board? Is it possible to use the PowerPC machine as accelerator for Classic Amiga and run AmigaOS 4.0 on this setup?

That seems to be something like the original plan for the "AmigaOne" hardware from Escena (not the machines from Eyetech). And IIRC we saw more announcements about classic Amiga addon boards which contain at least a PPC and PCI. But we saw no hardware, and IMHO we wont see any new PPC addon hardware for classic Amigas anymore.
@thread Sorry, had a bad day today (again). Birthday of my daughter... Please understand that after seeing discussed the AI/Hyperion contract in hundreds of posts, seeing discussed the terms "OS4 hardware license" and "target hardware" for years, that it may trigger aggressive behaviour of myself when people start asking if it would be legal to run OS4 under UAE. Next time please ask AInc about an OS4 license for UAE and please stop asking Hyperion about OS4 for x86, OS4 for UAE, OS4 for 68k etc pp... My goal was to help developing OS4 for real PPC hardware and not to create something which runs inside any sort of emulation.
To write something positive and on-topic here, OS4Classic runs here with PicassoIV and AriadneII and MultiFaceCardIII on A4k with Micronik ZIII daughterboard. I've also tested CyberVision64/3D, PicassoII, Merlin, Prometheus plus Permedia2, AriadneI.
Oh, and the original fan of the 233MHz CSPPC was too small. AFAIK its a known problem of the 233MHz variant that also appears with other PPC OSes, IIRC its known as "LR bug". A bit in that register flips when the CPU gets too hot, in the meantime OS4 has a workaround for that but I would better not try to find out how much this decreases performance when getting too hot or which registers start flipping when getting even hotter. |
