| Hello guys
As you [probably] know, I had an long lasting agony with Amiga Sam 460 ex you [community] bought for me to improve OS4.1+ skins and graphics. Just few more days and it will be 6 months of which 2 months I worked days and night to make it work.
At the very end - system is NEARLY ready for use, and thanks to incredible help of Bexjander [who sent me SATA card from New Zealand] finally I was able to connect DVDRom and HDs [both at once] ;) and magic command - bOOTa started system.
System installation [as you know] is made for aliens, not for ordinary people [even I consider myself not much ordinary - it was very hard and unfriendly installation].
Ok to skip hard and painful part [which I will explain once in a longer message to all you in AmigaWorld], here is 2 last steps:
- normal, working graphics card [as default one is more crap than AGA was] and - Internet connection
GFX card first:
- Can you please confirm that this graphics card is fully working and is currently BEST on the market:
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4650 1GB DDR2 PCI-E TVO DVI-I 11140-01-20R
I was told that this card is MISSING 3D drivers [!?] but it will be the first on a list that will get 3D drivers then [if] they are released one day. Now please check those 2 links:
http://www.shopmania.rs/graficke-karte/p-sapphire-11140-37-20r-462434
http://www.getel.rs/ProductDetails.aspx?arg=8776
1st link - gfx card is 40 eur, 2nd link - gfx card is 65 eur. Whats the difference? Also - none of those [outdated] cards are possible to find in any shop here, stock or whatever, only ONLINE buy [which smells to some cheating to me]... Why there is no phone or address on those online shops - kill me but does not look safe to me, even it is not expensive - 65 eur [+300eur I already paid for towering SAM] - overall it is... Present of SAM460ex for me should cost me at the end, with gfx card [if it is 65 eur] ~420 eur... which is not that small :) :( :S
What I was fighting about past 30 days is to - FIND any working 2D and 3D graphics card that will make my Sam finally work at the end. I left Amiga to my friend [that works with PC equipment, selling all the stuff for customers] and HE told me that ANY of the gfx card are EXTREMLY OLD and OUTDATED, even this one that is "latest" and is "waiting for 3D drivers".
Is there ANY newer gfx card on the market [for example, ATI Radeon 6540 or something] that is TINY, can fit next to installed SATA card in SAM and can produce 2D and 3D?
Please help. I am going to my friend to pick up Amiga finally in Sunday, I was extremly busy working gfx for tons of customers, still working, and will have only Sunday free for picking Amiga back to me.
And then last thing that will need to be done: create an internet connection... Damn, it was so unfriendly and when I tried to make a connection [with Wizard] - it freezes OS4 and the only way out is - rebooting... Even this sometimes does not work so I have to hit reset button on tower case...
Any help with gfx card [step 1] will produce enormous help :) and then step 2 for making iNet connection...
p.s. don't forget that any gfx card with great cooler won't go inside the tower case, because there is just 2 cm max of free space next to SATA card.

4650 is probably the ideal card for the Sam460. It offers good mid range performance and is likely noticeably faster than the 6540.
There is currently no 3D drivers for PCI-E video cards on OS4 but the card should be supported Galium is done.

The first card has a 64=bit memory controller 512MB of RAM and a core clock of 600Mhz. The second card has a 128-bit memory controller 1GB of RAM and a core clock of 650Mhz. It's best to avoid a card with a 64-bit memory controller so I'd recommend getting a card with similar specification to the second one. The prices are fairly typical for those cards.

Currently there's not even 2D drivers for 5000, 6000 or 7000 series cards so you could be waiting some time if you get something newer than a 4000 series card.
As mentioned above the 4650 should be than the 6540. The 6540 is 2 generations newer but 1 performance tier down from the 4650.

Most 4650 cards are single slot. Just make sure the you don't get a card with a chunky cooler or dual slot bracket. The second card you linked should either have the same cooler as the other card or different design with a plastic shroud to direct air over the cooling fins. Both designs will fit next to the SATA card fine.
The card stocked by Acube is fine tool since the VGA is on a separate bracket and due the the length of the card it is most likely that the SATA card won't cover the fan opening which should allow better air flow than other cards with a more centralized cooler.

I'm pretty sure that the cooler is single slot but you could always ask Acube to confirm if it will fit with a PCI SATA card installed. |

Buying low profile card from Acube is expensive, but is 100% solution.
Otherwize, you can take a risk of 2nd card that is cheap n as good ... if it fits ... damn! _________________ OS 3.x AROS and MOS supporter, fi di good, nothing fi di unprofessionalism. Learn it harder way! SinclairQL and WII U lover :D YT http://www.youtube.com/user/rasvoja |

"fit with a PCI SATA card installed."
I wonder if anyone as studied making drivers for SATA splitter chips. That way one could put the multiport sata "card" anywhere inside the case.

I have a RadeonHD 4650 installed and it's very fast etc, just waiting for 3D drivers and I will be a very happy bunny indeed
Edit:
I have the one in this link RadeonHD4650
I have this card fitted as well as a 4 x SATA card in PCI slot as configured by AmigaKit Last edited by sicky on 31-May-2012 at 07:23 AM. Last edited by sicky on 31-May-2012 at 07:18 AM.
