http://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/hardvara/53824-gecube_ati_radeon_9250_256mb_retail] Gecube Radeon 9250 PCI 256 MB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814241020

As you can see the card has two keys for both 3.3 and 5 Volt, but how can you be sure it isn't a 5 Volt only card? That would mean that it can kill a Sam4x0 machine.

@duga

If its combo card it means that you plug it in to a 3.3 or 5 PCI slot.

You can check Wikipedia abut PCI cards.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Thank you. That's correct, but what if the contact on the card is of the wrong type? That is, if the card is a 5 volt only card but the contact has the two keys indicating both 3.3 and 5 V.

Dear Duga (Rainbow?)

There is no way to know except to either picture the physical connector,
or by asking the seller directly since voltage is not the standard specification part or rarely is.

In my experience it is almost impossible to find 9250 with 256mb that works on SAM 440 and that quirky PCI voltage needs to be dropped in future SAM designs as it kills joy of using many cards.

As explained, there are cards that can do both but are always more expensive.

@vox

Continuing old thread.

It looks like my card is missing a voltage regulator. Does that mean it's 3.3 or 5 Volt?

I guess this is what's missing: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/526

If that's the case the card is a 5 Volt only card despite having two cuts instead of just one.

Thanks, but as you can see in my first post it is the Universal (3.3V &5V) 32-bit type that could theoretically do 5 Volt only resulting in killing a 3.3 Volt machine.

theoretically if is a broken card.
A Card with universalconector must mork in a 3.3V- and 5V- slot.

Why do you think it's missing a voltage regulator? Is there a space that looks like one should be fitted there?

Can you post a pic?

I wouldn't be worried about the card being only 5V, it's most likely only working with 3.3V.
Most Radeon cards are that way, thats why Elbox can sell their 5V modified Radeon cards at insane prices.

@Rob

Check the second link in the first post. Zoom in the third picture. There's a blank spot called "REG10", that's where the regulator is installed, if needed.

You see there a loot free places on this PCB. The PCB's are designed i such a way, that they can be equiped with with different components from different producers.

Well the following graphics card is comparable with the one you mentioned and it should work with SAM440EP-FLEX (not tested personally):

I have a 9250 card. I don't have a SAM.

I'm trying to figure out the voltage of the card so I know who could have any use of it.

Take a picture of it, look for model number or part number "p/n".

if the its the same card as you posted before its a combo card, it works in 5 VDC or a 3.3 VDC slot, it wont burn up the computer.
