| Does anyone have a list of graphics tablets that work well with SketchBlock/Amiga OS4.1.6?
It will soon be my birthday and I am considering buying myself a graphic tablet to use with this excellent program on my SAM460

Here is some, they are with other usb devices...

os4depot driver/input is drivers and readmes.
AFAIK wacon has best pens, because they have not battery. I had trust, and battery is top of pen, so its weight balance is bit weird. |

Do they not? I find that hard to believe. How would they detect button presses and pressure? Probably just a better design of the pen.
My LaPazz UCLogic Pen does have a battery, but is very smal and has lasted since I bought, amazing batery life actyally!

I have a wacom graphire4. It has no battery inside the pen. I dont know how button presses are detected, good question.

I would say, it depends what you want to do. I mean, in the graphic tablet's world, you can have several size of usable surface. I have a Trust TB-5300 which is a A5 format (swiss size) and I also have a Wacom with a size of A4.
I began with the Trust but I will go on with the Wacom because it is more comfortable to draw (but you need also place on your desk ).

For my purposes (simply drawing), A5 size is more than enough. You must keep in mind that you can zoom in/out in the application what you cannot do on real paper. So normally the hand doesnt really move accross the tablet, you would rather scroll/zoom in the image view. If you draw on paper, you usually focus on a small area as well. Just the whole image might be larger. _________________ -- Author of HD-Rec, Sweeper, Samplemanager, ArTKanoid, Monkeyscript, Toadies, AsteroidsTR, TuiTED, PosTED, TKPlayer, AudioConverter, ScreenCam, PerlinFX, MapEdit, AB3 Includes and many more... | interesting, maybe they use induction or something |
Wacom tablets use a (expired) patented electromagnetic resonance technology.[33] Since the tablet provides power to the pen through resonant inductive coupling, no battery or cord is required for the pointing device. As a result, there are no batteries inside the pen (or the accompanying puck), which makes them slimmer.

Hi Andy,
I've just dug out my waycom tablet. I bought it ages ago to try on OS4, actually after trying out Simon's (Rigo) touchscreen driver, so that's quite a while back. It is a "Wacom Graphire Classic XL A5" it seems to work fine with Sketchblock straight out of the box. Presumably using the mouse driver?
Do I need to install the wacomtablet.lha that you link to? Not being an artist, would it give me anything better than out of the box?
I am likely to plug my tablet in as & when I need it rather than connected all the time. So does it replace the usb mouse driver, and should I install it, just for occasional use?

The tablet i working only correctly as a tablet if it lets you position the mouse at absolute coordinates, not relative like the mouse. Most tablets can work as a mouse, but this is not what you need if you want to draw. _________________ -- Author of HD-Rec, Sweeper, Samplemanager, ArTKanoid, Monkeyscript, Toadies, AsteroidsTR, TuiTED, PosTED, TKPlayer, AudioConverter, ScreenCam, PerlinFX, MapEdit, AB3 Includes and many more... OK, so greater drawing control, etc.
I'll give it a try. _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

Mr2 and Wandered are right: without a dedicated driver Wacom tablets (and probably all other) present themselves as a standard HID device, as a consequence they can perform just like a mouse... But in this restricted mode you won't have access to the specificity of the tablet (absolute positioning, pressure control, additional buttons etc.)
@sicky
Sketchblock uses the standard AmigaOS Tablet event so any tablet with a driver sending those events is supported by Sketchblock. At the moment the only two tablet drivers for AmigaOS 4 are the UCLogic one by Andy and the Wacom one by me (both are USB tablet drivers only). _________________ AOS 4.1 : I dream it, Hyperion did it ! Which of the two drivers support the trust tablets? Do they offer pressure and f key support etc? _________________ AmigaOne X1000 |
