I'd just like to know if i can use a Radeon 9250 PCI with 256Mb vram into my Sam440ep mini-itx ? Does OS4.1 supports and use the 256Mb of video ram ? Is Warp3D supported ?
thanks !

Yes it Will work because the tread on hyperion is much old of the lastest release of the bios of the 440 ... The much important think is the video board voltage have to be'+3v compatibile or you Will destroy Your sam

He may, he may not.... i'm surprised there are contradictory statements on this matter, did someone actually tried it and can confirm what is working or not ?

Spectre is the guru of the video board he tested much video boards. I dont have a mini itx any more , in the boot section there is the external video board setting but if spectre is sure 100% i can be sure too :)

Things can change with OS /kernel and Uboot updates. My experiments were done with OS 4.1 components before update 6 . I dont have the Sam440ep- Itx model so I cant be 100% sure. From past threads on the subject no one has been able to get Warp3d to work properly with a PCI radeon 9xxx series using the 33mhz pci slot of the Sam440ep itx. The regular workbench display to the PCI radeon worked but was slow as there was no support for DMA. I have done some tests using the second pci slot on My sam440ep-flex but with a Radeon HD card.It was painfully slow due to the lack of DMA support. 25% of the 66mhz slot with DMA support.
Depending on how the ram on the video card is arranged OS 4.1 may see the full 25mb or only 128mb. The bottom line is there is a much greater chance of things not working as you would like than not.I remember Fingus trying as his onboard video was broken and he gave up and got a Sam 460ex instead. Once you get a 3.3v card and are carefull in inserting and removing the card you cant damage your machine but you may end up being unhappy with the final results .

ohh, and i thought everybody claimed at least 440 was well supported when it comes to drivers. also really wonder why so much userland stuff is hardware dependant. there should be some dependable abstraction layer beneath.. w3d.lib shouldn be hitting directly the hardware i guess..
There is always a level at which enhancements wont work. look at the Peg 2 and the Amigones and Radeon HD cards. No DMA for the Amigaones and no firmware support for the Peg 2 .

yup i can confirm, for sure the 9200/9250 are more slow of the m9 in the sam in 2d rendering , for the 3d we dont have a benchmark for test the 3d graphic performances hope one day hans will made it :)
