I want know the best SSD drives for my Sam460ex, 440ep and for my MacMini this IDE, I'm thinking to change the current hard disks of 7200 r.p.m. for the SSD, I bought the Kingston SSDNOW W30-SERIES SATA 3 C for my Sam460ex and I want to know how work it in the Sams? why? because the system of turn off from Sams as the old Amigas but now the hard disk are stopped sharply and the hard disk can suffer problems, and I think that the SSD haven't this problem because they haven't headers read/write.
Other question SSD IDE hard disk, are there? and where I can buy it?

I have an Samsung 840 6gb/sec on my Sam 460 .. but on the Sil 3114 max speed is 135 mb sec it is full working without problems.

I had a Oc Vertex SSD on my old 440 itx and was really great in speed 250 mbs on the internal sata of the ...

I have a SSD verbatiom on the Amiga 4000 ... acard card uw -->sata and run 30 mbsec...

I dont know of will run on a mac mini because you will need a IDE 2 Sata ... but if there is this adaptor for sure you will have a good transfer speed 3x of the internal ide.

There's no TRIM support at all (a way to tell drive which data is no longer needed, which generally makes it easier & faster for the drive with wear leveling to locate space for new data)

Sure, it's probably still faster than mechanical drives, what I mean is, you might not get much speed benefit on newer models compared to older models, and the speed will become slower over time.

My insterest is because ejem, I don't like the turn off system in the Sams and sometimes the mechanical hard disk has some strange noises from the headers, and as I have bad experiences with my Sams 440ep models, well, I try to avoid to have problems with the hard disk.

Yes there is no TRIM support (now) for SSD, but IIRC the "new" SSD have some kind of interim "garbage collector" or alike.
I can confirm I don't see any slowness with my SSD. I copy/delete/move files quite frequently. But suppor t for TRIM and 4KB sectors will be nice to see in the (near) future

Have 2 Patriot 32 GB SSD's in my SAM 440 machine and they've been working just fine for years and are super quick, big improvement over the traditional/mechanical 500 GB I originally had in there.

Kingston SSDNow on A1-XE + Sil3512 + AOS 4.1: works fine and it's a huge improvement over mechanical drives.

Isn't the cost per GB expensive? I'd like to convert to SSD also, but not at the price they want for such small sizes. The size I'd like costs an arm and a leg.

The main advantage of SSD vs mechanical seems to be in seek times, ie accessing multiple small files or fragmented files. It makes sense to have an SSD as the system drive (and possibly applications) for this reason.
For storing GB of large video files, documents, audio files, etc (which are mainly accessed as standalone files) the $/GB probably isn't worth it - and there's no real performance increase anyway since these tend to be accessed individually, and the partitions don't tend to be a fragmented as a system drive*.

Consequently a relatively small SSD (eg 64GB or 128GB) could be used just for system and applications (with everything else remaining on mechanical drives) to give you most of the real benefits without the masive cost of a total conversion.

*(depending on your usage of course)

Well, for me the problem is to buy one hard disk with the fantastic turn off system in the Sams, because a mechanical hard disk to 7200 r.p.m. without the header stopped/park as for example under MorphOS or Windowsis very bad for these hard disks, I prefer to pay 64 euros for this SSD disk than buy mechanical hard disk every year.....

It may be worth looking at Seagate's Hybrid drives. They combine a mechanical disc with 8GB of NAND flash (SSD) and the firmware automatically copies the most commonly used files to the SSD. 8GB should be ample for AmigaOS and probably all the apps you use on it.

Currently they are only available in 2.5" variants although 3.5" desktop models were announced in March. 3

I currently have a 2.5" 750GB 7200rpm drive fitted it in my X1000 using an inexpensive adapter kit. I'm pretty sure the drive doesn't even spin up if I don't go beyond what's stored on the 8GB SSD.

Search for Seagate Momentus XT.

Interesting, I didn't know about them. It seems that the older I get the less up-to-date I care about being. In good weather I spend almost all of my time in my gardens.

Just one thing. Momentus XT is the previous generation. Seagate have decided to label the latest generation as SSHD (Solid State Hybrid Drive), these are actually the third generation and have improved firmware for organising the data onto the 8GB of solid state.

Looking through the various articles out there it seems that only the 750GB model has 7200rpm drive and the 500GB and 1TB models have a 5400rpm drive.
I expect that when the desktop models arrive they will probably all have 7200rpm drive and probably cost a little less. I still haven't found info on when the desktop variants will go on sale.

I think Moxee said he had quite a substantial expenditure on home maintenance last year, I think it was hit and miss as to whether he'd be able to get an X1000. People's financial situation can quickly change too.
