| Gonna start saving some cash to buy/rent this. It's a direct-to-dvd release.
I just read on Slashdot that a new Babylon 5 DVD, entitled "The Lost Tales", is coming out and the trailer has been posted on the official Babylon 5 website. Maybe there's something there that we haven't seen yet. Since this show started being produced on the Amiga, i thought that someone might want to take a look at it.
Anyone that knows more, then post it here.
Note: if any mod thinks that this should be on another forum besides free for all, then move it to the proper place so anyone can see it but i think it's in the right place. Last edited by Zontrox on 26-Jun-2007 at 12:43 AM.

That's what i thought too since i remember reading about this a while ago. It seems that they decided to release it first on DVD before showing it on TV... that is, IF they intend to show it on TV. Then again, i might be wrong but since it's on the official site, i guess it's pretty safe to believe that this is true. _________________ "Would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom?!?" Ok, do a review of some sort after you've seen it if you want. I loved the series but not all movies. And B5 Excalibur (or was it named different?) didn't seem so good either but IIRC that was canceled rather soon. Last edited by Seer on 26-Jun-2007 at 06:24 PM.

| @Seer I think the series you refer to was called "Crusade". I think the series was actually cancelled by TNT before all the completed episodes had aired.
The shows chief creator, J. Michael Straczynski, talked the Warner executives into doing some direct to DVD B5 mini movies. He has gained a bit influence since DVD sales of the original series were quite good. He also sold a feature script and has other somewhat high profile projects in the works. His raised profile made B5-TLT possible. Any further B5-TLT projects will likely depend on sales of the first DVD, so one hopes it will do well.
I've read that the initial DVD will have a mix of both Crusade and B5 (Season 5) actors/characters. |

| I've got the Babylon 5 box set with everything ever made including Crusade etc. Some of the commentaries on Crusade are very interesting because JMS explains what the series is *really* about - the searching for a cure to the plague was added at a late stage. The actual plot is about them finding out Earth has shadow technology and they eventually go on the run.
In the series we find out the Captain was once lost in space after seeing his ship destroyed by a strange vessel, it turns out that was an Earth/shadow vessel which destroyed his ship.
So, crusade while initially a touch boring would have got a lot more interesting - Just like B5 itself.
Legend of the rangers looked like it could have been good - with the new, more shadowy than the shadows baddies...
BTW the price of the box set I got varies a lot, at time of writing it's £150 but I got it for £67 See here. _________________ Whyzzat? |

Actually pre-orders have basically guaranteed a second round, same as for the Stargate SG-1 direct to DVD features that are coming out soon. SCI-FI channel is probably kicking themselves over both these drops on there part, and of course they found out out Galactica is a pyrite egg instead of the gold they thought, so they've cancelled it as well, so not sure what SCI-FI will be showing next year. -Tig

I thought the series was excellent and is one of my all time favorites. I think it had the right mix of good and evil and some good down to earth grit that never realy appeared in the likes of Startrek. Don't get me wrong I liked Startrek aswell but sometimes it was almost too perfect, especially the no money thing which is something I can never see the human race doing without. The spin of series Crusade did get of to a bit of a slow start but I think it was a shame that it got cancled so quick, with a little more time it had the potential to be quite a good show in its own right. Maybe they could have solved the ships power dranage problem when fireing the main weapon, that was indeed a bit of a problem should they have had more than one target to contend with. A sad loss as we all know is Andreas Katsulas who's character G'Kar played an important part in the series, he should be remembered well. As for reviewing the film well we will just have to see I've never writen a reveiw before.
Oh how many of you can remember how many Minbari or Centauri it takes to screw in a light bulb?

"... how many Minbari or Centauri it takes to screw in a light bulb?"
Uhm Minbari...none. They always surrender right before they finish the job and they never tell you why.
Don't remember what the answer was for Centauri. |

Correct. the Centauri one is One. But in the great old days, hundreds of servants would change a thousand lightbulbs at our slightest whim.
How about this one

Kosh.

| I hope it's better than the last Babylon 5 TV movie: Legend of the Rangers. It was an absolute disgrace. It was beyond dire.
They don't have a good record with TV movies. Apart from In the Beginning, which was tremendous, each new one is worse than the last. Although I think it'll take a remarkable amount of effort to achieve something worse than Legend of the Rangers.

| @smithy I'm afraid I have to agree. I don't think I've ever come across a B5 fan that really liked B5-LotR. Many of the CG shots were good but, when I see that chick blasting and kicking spaceships in the virtual reality weapons pod thing, I still cringe. It could've been an interesting idea perhaps, but it was so poorly executed that if one is not cringing, he is almost certainly giggling. |

| Most of you already know this but i found "The Lost Tales" trailer on YouTube. When i went to the official website, i found the video to be 'dragging' a little bit, skipping a lot of frames. Anyway, here it is, the YouTube version...

Just watched that trailer, and I am not sure what to expect really, since the obvious blue/green screening in that trailer makes you wonder how the final product is going to be.
At least the TV series had decent blending of CG and live action to make it believable. This is looking like another "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" affair, whereby the film would have been so much better if it wasn't all CG generated backdrops with actors masked in. _________________ Test sig (new) |

| @_Steve_ Have to agree - I actually fell asleep on SCatWoT. As for virtual sets, it depends on how well they are integrated with the live action. If the camera is locked off in every shot, the illusion is much less convincing.
I seem to remember reading that the group that does the CG for Battlestar Galactica was hired for B5-TLT. |

This is just one of my many favourites scenes... i think it's from Endgame - Season 4, Episode 20. Here's another one from the same episode. These space battles from B5 where always awesome.
I'm still trying to find just a sample/clip of the scene where G'Kar calmly rises and addresses the council in one of his most memorable lines in the history of the series, from the episode The Long, Twilight Struggle - Season 2, Episode 20.
G'Kar - No dictator, no invader, can hold an imprisoned population by the force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power governments, and tyrants, and armies can not stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free!
I'm sure you remember this one. You don't know by any chance if there is a small clip of this scene available somewhere, do you? I can't find it anywhere... nada, zip, zilch!
