| IGN XBox One reveal
What do you think? Is this the future of entertainment in the living room? Is the console design and specs what you were expecting? Will its impressive media and Minority Report style Kinect functionality win you over? Is the PlayStation 4 simply more relevant to gamers today? Would you rather just pull out your CD32 and play Superfrog? The choice is yours Last edited by BigD on 21-May-2013 at 10:52 PM. Last edited by BigD on 21-May-2013 at 10:48 PM. Much like I did with the currently outgoing console gen I will wait. the projected £400 price tag is too much for me and I always like to see what the overall quality of games is going to be like before purchasing. I am sure there will be some that will buy it on release day, and for them I say rock on if it's your bag. But it will be atleast 2 years from release before I even consider it. _________________ My personal blog - CritAnime.com

Having both PS3 and 360 I find that Xbox Live is the better online experience for our family. Xbox Live looks to be ramped up for the Xbox One, so that's exciting. However, neither one has a compelling backwards compatibility story. I don't really want to have 3 or 4 consoles. 2 is almost 1 too many. So being I can't replace either existing system I think I might delay to see what happens the first 6 months. If I had to select on day one, I think the Xbox One and their Live offering is more compelling for us.
Though, there's lots of time and E3 is but a few weeks away. It's then when we'll really see the games stacking up against each other. |

| I just wounder the Xbox One, did they get the name from the AmigaOne?
I don't think I'm that bothered about the next gen, haven't really played my ps3 much in the past year partly just don't have the time for it any more and partly all the games are starting to feel at bit too samely and focus to much on the graphics not on the gameplay, some of the best games I've played recently are indie games. So I will be interested in what happens with next console supporting that scene more.

Lying naked in the sun making eyes at everyone You're the one Later on you'll stand alone, a lone empty moon, with an empty heart in you're empty hands And the flowers and the trees All laughing at your bike And the neighbors kids run and hide If they only knew you were really one of them But you're not You're the One The one The one The one
The one The one The one The one Could it be we're alone and the moon was full of gold You're heart was filled with blood and the sun was in you're hands The sun that burned you then, Now warms you're empty heart, People come and go, But you're the One
The one The one The one

My very first thought when seeing it was, "set top box". It even looks like the mock ups banded about by the then Amiga a decade ago.
Not backwards compatible, the exact same size of hard drive as the set top box Sky gave me for free to watch digital satellite, I'm wondering if the Amiga curse lives on through the "brand name - One" _________________ "Anyone with a modicum of reasonableness may realize that it is like comparing the ride in the world to descend the stairs to catch the milk in the house."

| It looks like a bit of disaster so far. Can Microsoft do anything right these days?
It's extremely ugly, it doesn't have the early launch advantage that the 360 had, it's not backwards compatible, and signs are that it's less powerful than the PS4. I love the 360 controller and this new one looks fabulous, but you seriously have to weigh that up against a £40 a year Xbox Live subscription.
Outside of the US the TV features are useless and frankly, why would I want to use my Xbox to control the TV anyway? Do I want the constant drone of my console fan while watching BBC 1? I can buy a YouView box which will do a much better job of live and on demand TV.
Maybe something good will come out of Kinect or some exclusive titles, but otherwise I'm not seeing much reason to pick this over a PS4...

The entire concept is a bit of a joke like you pointed out. I am not going to fork out money for a XBOX One when I have Sky. Why bother recording live TV when a basic free view box has the same functionality. I don't want my games console to tweet or update my Facebook profile as I am gaming. And the whole paying to unlock second hand games thing is just a slap in the face. _________________ My personal blog - CritAnime.com

From my point of view the XBox in all of its iterations and incarnations can be summed up in a single word.

and apparently the ps3 was just as irrelevant as the Xbox 360.

as for me I'll do just like this Gen and buy them both. _________________ Support AROS sponsor a developer.

I'll buy the PS4 ( if I ever buy a games machine ) because it's not American.

Biggest issues that I saw were Kinect - it is useless in most UK homes as they do not have the 1.5-1.9m clearance between the tv and where I need to be standing.
XBLA - your existing games are useless. All of the games you bought in Xbox Live arcade will not work on the new system.
Second hand game market - not being able to sell on games you no longer want without the new owner having to buy an unlock code is a bit of a joke. They cannot claim they have lost a sale, as the game was bought in the first place. Having to pay again to unlock it for a new user is just wrong - it is essentially them charging twice for the same product. This is a similar route EA started to use with their online net play requiring a new code if you sold on the game, otherwise online play was impossible with it.
It seemed it would need a persistent internet connection as well, as they kept mentioning cloud based storage of your gaming profile.
As you also said, here in the UK the TV functionality is pointless. I wouldn't want to be watching live TV via the console when I can just as easily turn on the sky box to do that.
Still, I can't be the only one who in watching the demonstration half expected the console to just turn to him and say:
"I'm sorry , I can't do that"

btw nonw of the poll options fit me. i won't buy until the privacy concerns are addressed. preferably with the ability to disconnect or disable the kinect.
of course if they price it out of my budget i may not buy one at all. Last edited by jkirk on 29-May-2013 at 12:47 PM.

not to mention privacy concerns of kinect listening and watching to what is going on in the room the xbox is in. providing targeted ads based on what is happening and the xbox stops working if the kinect is disconnected.

"You want privacy, we'll give you modes that ensure your privacy. And we actually have a little bit about this on the Web already. We will have something similar for the Kinect with Xbox One. The system is designed to have Kinect be an integral part of the experience. It's not the case where you'll be able to remove the camera altogether. But you'll be able to put the system in modes where you can be completely secure about the fact that the camera is off and can't see you. Microsoft Xbox group manager Jeff Henshaw on Cnet.
Free fix besides turning off inside the system settings? Spin it around so it sees the wall. Or cheap fix? Put a bit of duct tape over the lens.

One possible plus to the Microsoft Patents on counting the audience is they will likely have better information than other providers. For example, today we only know 1 person instigated the purchase of the media. We don't know if they're watching or if their whole family of 6 are watching.
If Microsoft builds a better 'Nelsen's rating' for content the providers will want to hit the Microsoft media platform before others. For example, today Microsoft Live has had various movies prior to them even hitting theaters. More media companies will want to be part of knowing their audience and market better.
... That being said paranoia is always good. For example, the Gov can get your email, text, and phone calls. What happens when the Gov wants the camera stream from your living room?

exactly it just makes me nervous because if i want to sit in my recliner with nothing but a smile with a cold drink. i should be able to without worrying about big brother watching me.
also i should be allowed to have an argument without being offered counseling.
Anyway if these things can be worked out then fine. However if it isn't worked out to my satisfaction my money won't leave my hands for a new xbox.
at least on my old one i can unplug the kinect if i get a red flag while using it. _________________ Win•dows: n. Much news has been made of late that Microsoft can record your Skype stuff for the Gov. So people are afraid of Microsoft. However, if you have a landline or a cellphone they've been able to do the same stuff for years. Hello anyone remember how Nixon was caught? It's a simple fact of life this potential is going to exist. We all need to be vigilent that governments are only accessing this stuff with Court Orders on suspect of serious crimes.
There definitely is some exciting features of the Xbox One. Cloud computing for gaming is coming and I think we'll see some major changes on how computers impact our daily lives. For every Xbox One you get 3 in the cloud I think the pervasive computing era is upon us. Last edited by BrianK on 29-May-2013 at 05:40 PM.
