Intersting project. How fast this card should be?

According to Majsta, arround 80 MHz and 1 GB of DDR RAM

80 MHz doesn´t say much about real speed. 68060 80 MHz is more than 10 times faster than "68000" 80 MHz.

@pavlor

Agreed, but 68060 would also be 10 times the price of softcore 68000.

It will be possible to update the core to 020, 040 or 060 eventually and there should be other cards for different Amiga models with PCI so it should be pretty quick by 68K standards.

Keep in mind that speed or memory is not important here. This is new concept. Accelerator capable of upgrating with new soft cores and anyone who own one can work on it. Make it faster, add more memory. L limitations of memory used is very high like in modern computers. I want to force people to experiment. Also i ll open website for new soft cores, and with cores from users who managed to get best speed from accelerator. I want to have list of fastest fpga accelerators created from users. I want to give you hardware and basic softcore and then if you want to get more from that hardware experiment, learn.

2.5x A600 speed. Not bad. Final price will be the most important factor.

Yes but those are shots 3 days ago now I m at much higher performance. Goal is about 9Mips or maybe more but lot of optimization regarding code needs to be done. Also amount of the memory will be surprise :)

Nice work. Maybe you can pick up where the Natami team left off?

@majsta

Great work. The more people using softcores will mean the more people ironing the bugs out of them and improving the performance. Something that will benefit multiple projects.

That will be realy good speed for an A600. My A1200 with 68030 50 MHz delivers around 11 DMIPS. Memory is cheap, but not much applications need more than 16 MB RAM when using 68030 class CPU and ECS GFX.

nice, majsta, but there still must be a major flaw within the (interface?) design as its been said already..

@others: guys anyone can advise or help him? its definitely cool so far he got on his own but i think technical backup is massively necessary in this situation.

edit:
@majsta:
i understand that you are eager to deliver results. but modern day fpga must be fast enough by itself, rather than trying to substitute the flaw with the clockrate it would eventually pay more to find it first and then push the clockrate to the limits.

@majsta

The A600 is the only C= Amiga left in my house, I kind of like that little cutie. Would be cool to pimp it a little. With 9+ MIPS it would probably the fastest A600 card (IIRC the fastest A600 accelerator used a 030 @40 MHz which should deliver 8-9 MIPS.

I wonder if the FPGA is big enough to house PPC601 or PPC603e ?

@KimmoK

do you have cores at hand, and what sense would that make anyway?

Run OS4 on A600

Surely next you ask would be why? Because it's fun and cool it's fun to work on it, it's cool to be able to have it. it's not all about have fun after all?
