| Does anybody here know how to configure AROS to run on Raspberry Pi? I have seen a couple of videos about it on Youtube and i have also sourced some ISO's on the net but it seems a dead end whenever i try to setup an SD card to run AROS. There is a native, not yet complete distribution which, i think, is only in Alpha stage. Hosted under Linux seems possible but as i wrote before i never managed to have AROS running on R-Pi this way. Any suggestions, walkthrough, guide would be much appreciated _________________ Vanilla A500 NOS A1200 (Powered by V1200, CoffinOS r.58) PowerMac beast, MorphOS 3.15 (registered) |

| @portarinos You don't need much of configuration.
Download the latest nightly "hosted" files and run the arosbootstrap file in "/yourAROShostedfiles/boot"... some distros need you to mark arosbootstrap as "executable".
If you run armel kernel you need the armel build. If you run armhf kernel you need the hosted armhf version.

I suppose you mean "inux-arm-system" form this page
http://aros.sourceforge.net/nightly.php
Right?
If yes, then i should say that i have already done that but i'm stuck then. I prepare an SD and what then? I think i'm taking the wrong steps then. Could somebody explain simply what to do exactly? I'm not sop competent when it comes to Linux, sorry!

yep... those are armel files.
So you need to run a "armel"/ soft-float- Linux distro for the pi: http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads
Burn the image from the raspberry guys to a sd-card.
Now start the Pi and boot from SD-card. A linux desktop will appear. Use the installed browser to download the file form the AROS download page.
Double click it and it will be opened (be patient- don't click again.. else it will crawl or explode because the PI is slow)
Extract the folder to your user folder... documents, desktop, wherever you like.
Now you open the extracted folder, navigate to /boot folder. Do a right click on the file "arosbootstrap", checkmark (make file executable) This should work.
Now you can double click the arosbootstrap file. In theory. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 18-May-2013 at 06:17 PM.

Thanks for the info and your effort in putting together a brief guide. Unfortunately, i haven't managed to get this thing working but anyway. I wanted also to ask about this
http://www.aros-broadway.de/downloads/index.html
Does it run well on the Raspberry Pi? Is it the same procedure as the one mentioned in previous posts?

OK running the Linux hosted version of AROS does work for me on my Raspberry Pi, but only if I run AROSBootstrap from terminal. But at lest it does work
I am not sure why nothing happens if I double click on the bootstrap and select terminal, but for what ever reason it does not seem to work that way.
Secondly it would seem it is only of use as a tech demo as there does not seem to be any software other than the core OS compiled for ARM at the moment as far as I can see
@portarinos
Did you definitely download the Soft-float Debian “wheezy” version of the linux image to run aros under? http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/images/debian/7/2012-08-08-wheezy-armel/2012-08-08-wheezy-armel.zip
@All
Now we just need some more AROS software complied for ARM under AROS and we can start having some fun with this port. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

I have not yet tried Broadway X on my Raspberry Pi but the idea of running Linux applications from under AROS is an interesting one up I will need to give it a try at the moment I am only using a 2GB card to test AROS and I only have about 25MB free so I will need to get a larger SD card or find some software included in the standard debian image I can uninstall before I give it a try._________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

I am running the soft float version as you. Running Arosbootstrap from terminal is a good suggestion? I'll give it a try tonight.
As for Broadway, I have already installed it on a 4gb SD but all I get when I try to boot it is a black screen. That's why I was wondering if there is any special trick with it! _________________ Vanilla A500 NOS A1200 (Powered by V1200, CoffinOS r.58) PowerMac beast, MorphOS 3.15 (registered) |

Well let us know how you get on. I also found that if you swap out of X -Windows before running AROS so it runs full screen over a terminal rather than in a window it feels a lot faster.

Sounds like the first stage Raspberry Pi bootloader/kernel is too old to work on newer boards. So you will need to wait on an updated Broadway X release, workout how to update the boot loader on the existing image with a USB card reader under Linux or do a manual install of Broadway X on top of your existing Soft float Linux version._________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar |

I am looking for a tester with a Model B for a new AEROS-pi image.
What needs to be tested: 1. Does it work on all Pi models?
Requirements: 4GB SD-card (boots straight into AROS but contains everything raspian does.) .img can be written to SD-card as any other Pi- image.
If you use a larger SD-card you can use raspberry-config to expand the partition to full size.
New: based on Wheezy Autologin to AROS Fullscreen AROS + launching Linux apps is now preconfigured.
Registered users can grab it from www.aeros-os.org . Everyone else as soon it gets old. (old-version).

| @portarinos check pm
if you wish to run linux apps you need to open the AROS shell and type lx mylinuxapp
"lx netsurf" will launch a lightweight browser. "lx midori" is also possible.
alternatively you can do a "right-click" on the taskbar to access the linux menu.
Let me now if it is working.
Just write it to sd card like any other Pi- image. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 10-Jun-2013 at 06:30 PM.

You've won the last golden ticket.
EDIT: Check the "raw image" part. It describes how to write the image to an sd-card. http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 10-Jun-2013 at 06:58 PM.

3.5 is the last released version for x86. You need a torrent client to download it.
To get it to work on a netbook/notebook you "must" burn the iso to a usb stick like the Pi image to sd-card.
Most Notebook bioses have trouble to boot aeros from DVD... don't know why.
Then you need to run choose the "failsafe" option form the boot menu. Afer installation you will have a grub menu. On most notebooks with AMD APU's you need to edit the grub boot entry the first time to force that "radeon" isn't used. Need to check the correct options.
After booting you can install the latest AMD linux drivers for your system.
I did it for the Ares Mini "m1000" which is APU based.
EDIT: All the trouble because it is done for the AresOne with Nvidia GPU. Next version will be targeted to nothing which means it comes open minded and should work everywhere (as debian does). Next version will be only available via physical distribution on USB or SD. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 10-Jun-2013 at 07:57 PM.
