@Dirk-B

Yeah not doing anything to the site will do that :)

@A1200

I think the web site works really well as it does, and also I think the web side looks nice, even if its not latest HTML format.

What I don't like is when you I need to copy some source code or mathematical formula into a comment, you need to add HTML symbol names for grater and lesser symbols, to get it right, and also issue whit not being able to edit the comment afterwords, because the lesser and grater symbols get messed up.

I also think off topic comments might have been handled better if the comments where organized by replays and indent'ed instead of chronological by date and time.

@NutsAboutAmiga

What I don't like to a lesser extent is having source code messed up and to a greater extent not being able to do a search and goto that post. I have to resort to Google at times to get to a post. Also threads go missing. There's about five listed in the Linux section but it has so much more! So yes it's nice it works in iBrowse but I wish the bugs could be fixed.

Yup AW.net has the poorest "Search Function" or rather lack of Search Function of any site I've ever came across on the net...

You can't even find your own old posts or threads let alone someone else's...

Never understood why this site is so awkward to use, even creating a post is a pain in the arse, try adding something where you want it like an URL for example and it always gets placed right at the end and you have to cut and paste the thing to where you want it...

Then of course there's the lack of ability to play YouTube videos which in this day and age is quite simply a must have...

Often wonder why this site has such poor "facilities", heck it can't be to do with cost, cos you can create a far more modern and better functioning site for free form many different online companies...

How about it AW.net... why not give the site a badly needed major overhaul and bring it up to date with the modern world...

Toggle the gadget at bottom right side "sorted by" from "100 days" to "from beginning" and click "go".

Then you'll get a numbered list of pages to choose from.

@Franko

I vote NO! too, any modern system is going to break on IBrowse and as an IB2.5 user I find it to be the fastest and most stable browser I have.

Don't forget you can google for posts in amigaworld. I search for amigaworld.net and whatever I'm looking for...

@Franko

The features (or lack thereof) are down to the CMS used. This CMS is old by any standards, and was customised quite heavily when we first started to use it to ensure it remained compatible to older Amiga browsers.

If you want to lose that older browser compatibility, then sure, we just move on to a new CMS. Staff have considered changing before when we had one of the server moves. A change of server OS also had the unfortunate side effect of breaking some of the CMS code, most of which was fixed or worked around by our devs.

The search module is somewhat lacking for sure - but again, that just comes down to how Xoops works (specifically the version employed by this site).

Now that's gotta be the dumbest thing ever !!!

How come the link you just provided takes you to a half decent search function and yet the actual search button and its "advanced search" takes the user to the "poor quality" search funtion that is totally useless... !!!

What's the point in having a search function that's better (like the one you just posted a link to) when memebrs can't even find it until someone like yourself posts it... crazy or what...

And it's obvious I'm not the only one whom didn't know about this "hidden" search function you have just revealed...

I'm sure I've requested making it visible in the past.

Fortunately no one listens to me here though. Heh.

Thing is how many folk actually use an Amiga to browse the net, a tiny minority I'd reckon...

Heck you'd be hard pushed to find a bigger Amiga fan than me but like I've always said the Amiga aint no use for browsing the net and never will be...

I'd be more than happy to help pay for AW.net to move to a decent modern site (if needed) as it's sorely lacking in lots of ways when it comes to being "user friendly"...

I know it's an Amiga site but like I say it's only a tiny minority of people whom actually go through the pains of using an Amiga browser for the net, so why not move with the times and make AW.net a much better site by making it at least half modern...

You're the only one people actually listen to here... I've often thought that you secretly run this place but then if you did we most likely wouldn't have all these little problems as you always seem to right on top of things...

Oi... whomever actually owns this site... get yer finger out and put Number6 in charge and make this site more bearable to use... you never know it might actually encourage more people to visit the place and push up the abysmal 20 to 50 odd current viewing figures AW only gets in recent times...

Sometimes think whomever actually does own this site doesn't give a crap about it anymore...

For modern amigas aka x1000, sam's etc, Timberwolf (firefox) and 3d Acceleration drivers are just around the corner and browsing on the Amiga will never be stuck in the stone age again!

Well I have removed the current search block from the top right, and added a new search link in the left hand menu area.

There is still a search link at the top of the screen which points to the same search module as the block on the right used to. I wanted to just edit this link, but haven't been able to get to it. It isn't ideal, but hopefully it will suffice for now.

For now, sure. And thanks for doing that. Each time I mention that nick search it seems someone mentions they didn't know about it.

But I'd still like to see one link to search where instructions could be posted along with the search parameters. For example:
I'm sure you are aware that with the old search link at right, you could enter a nick alone and get the "news" postings for that nick, along with the forum posts for that nick.

The other search, now at left, doesn't have that ability.

Plus, I just tried the top search with a nick and it didn't pull up a recent "news" posting by that nick, despite the fact that the nick had posted a "news" story and I had "news" checked.
