Quake 3 problem

Hi All

I have just tried Quake 3 on the Amiga for the first time!

I copied contents of CD Quake 3 to Work:Games/Quake 3

I run the executable and it switched to a grey screen and after about a minute switched back to workbench with the folloring error message:

Parent process has tried to exit before all children have.

Process: "Quake3"

Function: "Wait_until_Child_Ends()"

Error Process: "MiniGL watch-dog "

I wonder is this because I dont have proper hardware support due to no 3D hardware driver for my SAM460 and Radeon HD4650 GFX card, or is it something else? Can the game be forced to run in software render mode like Quake 2? If so how do I set that?

Thanks in advance

@sicky

I dont know but my guess would be you need 3D driver like me (x1000). You can install wazp3d as it uses the cpu instead but its very slooooow. Not playable but usefull on smaller games and demos from os4depot.

i thought Q3 was only HW render and no software mode so youre gfx card won't work for now....

@Toaks & Kicko

Thanks guys, I do have Wazp3D installed but didn't try it as last time I tried it in 2D whatever it is mode it was very slow!

I guess I shall have to waid for Radeon HD 3D driver to come out.

@sicky

You can try Wazp library
http://fi.aminet.net/driver/video/Wazp3D.readme
but it can be quite slow. Only final RadeoHD driver will save
the day and make use of Radeon 4xxx. Until then you have 2D card.

If you are not using WinUAE but a real OS4 PPC Amiga copy Wazp3D.library-ppc TO LIBS:Warp3D.library

Also having latest RadeonHD driver is a must everytime.

Yes I have tried that, same story but with strange corrupt sound!

Quake 3 probably won't work very well *with* acceleration, because it freezes quite often. I can only stand this sporadically and then I stop playing it for months (Smokin' Guns and Urban Terror, I ignore the rest).

If someone wants to convince me it can run just fine, play it on OS4 for about 10 hours first (the longest uninterrupted session for me was less than three hours).

Does that mean you have played it previously on OS4, if so how?

I just want to try it and get it running on my system, SAM460 with Radeon HD 4650 gfx card.

Yes, nothing special about that with A1XE and Radeon 9200 AGP.
