Hi All,
Since Afxgroup ported the GemRB engine capable of running Baldur's Gate and Icewindale, I tried to get the install of Icewindale going following his advice.

I owned the original CDs (2 + 1 for the manual + 1 for the addon) so I copied their contents to icewindale folder under CD1 or CD2, and updated the gemrb.cfg file (the part about gamepath).

the unshield tool (provided) is supposed to extract the datas from .cab files but it does nothing in my case.
I put the CD into my CD drive and type

unshield -j -g "RAM:" x /CD0/DATA1.CAB
Cabinet: /CD0/DATA1.CAB
File group: RAM:
-------- -------
0 files

does anyone succeeded in installing this game ?
not to mention that the game does not start...

see the output :

@lionstorm

Hello,

The chitin.key error means, most probably, that you haven't setup the paths correctly on the .cfg (assuming you have copied the appropriate data).

Moreover, I am fairly sure that GemRB does not support the expansion set of IWD.

Lastly, what I did, was to setup the game (unpatched) on a PC and copy the contents of CD2 in a newly created folder named "CD2" within the original setup path. Then transfer the whole packet on my Sam and unzip on the root path GemRB.lha contents.

Game's path on my cfg looks like this:
CD1: DH1:Games/Icewind Dale/Icewind Dale Data/
CD2: DH1:Games/Icewind Dale/Icewind Dale Data/CD2/

In order to achieve higher frame rate run the game via shell adding ">NULL" in the command.

In order to show the fps rate ingame, enable the command on the cfg :)

@Cool_amigaN

So it actually works then? Baulder's Gate and Icewind Dale on the Amiga? Cool.

Looks like the answer is yes... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69tLh-1XB6I

@-Sam-

IWD works. Tomorrow I will test Bg1. Still everyone out there should understand that GemRB is in beta stage and does not support Planetscape Torment, IWD2 and any expansion over BG1 and 2. Though IWD works flawlessly on SamEp440/AOS4.1U2.

well thats the problem : you copied an installed version from your windows pc to your sam whereas I can not do that, and according to the readme, the installation from the CDs is supposed to work

Bump.

@lionstorm

Cd to the directory with the data1.cab then use unshield

gemrb >NIL: is indeed faster than just gemrb

I installed PST in December and I couldn't load a saved game. So I thought it's because PST isn't yet supported, but now the same thing happens with Baldur's Gate. I can save anywhere, but they never fully load and gemrb gets ambushed.
(Trying IWD soon)

@Thematic

I did exactly that but still no joy, nothing is extracted

JHO:Jeux/GEMRB/Icewindale> unshield -j -g "RAM:" x DATA1.CAB
Cabinet: DATA1.CAB
File group: RAM:
-------- -------
0 files

EDIT: funny enough, if I just specify "unshield -j x DATA1.CAB" or "unshield x DATA1.CAB" files got extracted ! strange that the -g switch does not work with the 2 others, as stated in the readme
I have yet to see whether the game is indeed working

Ah, looks like typo in readme. If you do 'unshield -h' (or without -h, too) you can see that -g flag is supposed to be -d .

@Thematic

ah ok thx

how is the directory structure looking like on your side 5i mean the full di tree) ? I still can not get the game to start, whatever I do, and it seems like a pathway problem even if I update the cfg file accordingly, it is always looking for data although data is declared in the cfg

now "unshield -d -j x" extracts everything in -j directory, with 2 directories called "Minimum_compressed" and "Recommended_compressed"

EDIT: well the -j dir comes from the command line so now, extracting to RAM: with "unshield -j -g "RAM:" x /CD1/DATA1.CAB" as stated in the readme does not work (neither does "unshield -j -d "RAM:" x /CD1/DATA1.CAB".
the only working thing is "unshield -j x DATA1.CAB" into 2 dirs.

@lionstorm

I don't have the IWD expansion btw. == 2 discs.
I came up with the following "listing" by extracting data1.cab with full paths, then removing some of the directories. I mean if a file was in yadayada/data/file, it ends up in data/file, but when I ran GemRB there were some files that were not where the program expected. So it's somewhat awkward, also for Baldur's Gate and PST. I haven't tried the "put every file in one directory" approach.

list iwd all nodates
(too large for a message)
http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=HbWnRRTs

So I must have used unshield with only the -d flag, but even that can be left out if extracting to current directory.

YES thats what I am using

@ Thematic : thx for the dir tree and OMG, now I understand why it is not working ! seems like a pc is needed to generate all these directories with correct files inside, and unshield is not able to do the job

I suppose you installed it on some PC and took back the files on your AmigaOne/SAM ?

This unshield version is from Afxgroup (and fails to extract the BG2 cab's here).

No, I did it all on the AmigaOne running AmigaOS 4.1... I already explained above how I did it.

yes you are right I was using the one provided with GemRB
now I use the one you released this year and unshield x data1.cab is indeed creating the necessary directories.
so far I was able to create my hero but after that, got a guru and then CPU at 100% doing nothing

Having tried a lot of different gemrb configs and even a couple of hacks to save a game, I have determined it isn't going to happen without a look at the code. To make a long story short, one of the save game files tends to end up with 8 bytes size, which is practically the same as no save.
