Hey all,

I remember someone posting a link to a website that showed a fan remaking Shadow of the Beast, on modern equipment and using a lot more colors and higher resolution, here in the forums. Does anyone have that link still or know how the game was progressing? Thanks.

Ed

If you refer to that french remake: At this link

I'm afraid that it's dead since 2005 from what I can understand (I'm not French native language nor I studied it, but it's not so different from the dialect we use in Piedmont, so I can understand something).

@edponpon

Over at EAB there's an ongoing effort for a SOTB remake:

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=60399

Then the "Return of the Beast" project from Seblam, but his website (www.lamtec.fr) is offline ATM.

I think it's based on the now defunct "Beast PC" engine, but I might be wrong:

I didn't realize there was an Atari 8-bit port!

@edponpon

I think you are referring to Return Of The Beast from Sebastien "Lamtec" Lamour.

This project has disapeared (http://www.lamtec.fr has closed), you can still see a picture on http://obligement.free.fr/gfx/returnofthebeast.png

Too bad

Are there any sites that provide upload space for abandoned source code for developers, or groups of developers who decide to stop work on games or productivity software?

It would be great to have such a place where source code could be uploaded, along with any notes, or comments from the original programmer. Then new programmers, or existing programmers looking for a new project to work on could perhaps sign up to take these abandoned projects and complete them, while giving the original programmer some credit for the initial work that was done before they restarted the project.

Not all projects are worthy of being restarted and many might not be worth the storage space and bandwidth, so an administrator would need to review each project and evaluate the amount of work completed already to determine if it is a something that is likely to be restarted by anyone, or if the source code is worth saving from deletion.

Just a crazy idea to consider. Maybe it has already been done somewhere, but not for Amiga programs. What do the rest of you think about this idea? Is it worth starting a new thread about?

@amigadave

It's a good idea as there is probably a lot of old code lurking around on peoples HD's, finished or not that others may like to "tinker" with ( I know I have tons of "unfinished" code)...

There's nothing to stop someone uploading their old or abandoned source code etc... to a free file sharing host like Mediafire...

I put some of my old source code for WHDLoad slave file on there as it's quicker to just supply folk who are ask me for them with a link and then it's up to them if they want to use them to learn how to code such things or improve them...

It's not really a crazy idea and anyone can do it if they want too but it would be nice if someone took it upon themselves to open such a free account and took care of it, categorising, sorting etc...

@all

Project is not dead and should evolve in something a little different. Consider this screenshot as a hint
On top right is current engine based on BeastPC and Allegro currently running on OS4 and waiting for a complete graphics overhaul.

My website will comeback in a different form as well

Hey, nice to read you again. Sorry if I said it was dead but I could not find anything on the net

Good news indeed if the project is still going on !

@Seblam

sweet! i've been really looking forward to this since your interview in amiga future magazine. i take it your initial idea of using the amidark engine has been shelved, then?

No, I'm not happy with the speed of the engine with Allegro library so AmiDark engine when it's released is still an option. The only reason for not so much news in reality is the same as all hobby project, the free time...
